Stay in Lisbon near airport or down town

Hi, two of us want to travel and stay at Lisbon for 2-3 nights in Nov 17. Wondering whether to stay near airport or downtown makes more sense to see / visit the top 10 attractions in city? Appreciate advise on city attractions and place of stay either near airport or downtown city!

Thanks!

Public transport and taxis in Lisbon from the airport to the city centre are so good and fairly priced that it is to your advantage to stay in the city centre -- where the liveliness of the evenings is big part of the local culture. It will also make it much simpler to go sightseeing just about anything you choose to see.

There is no sense in staying at the airport, which is in any case close to town. There is more than enough to see in and around Lisbon to keep you occupied for far more than one or two full days.

If you just want a list of the "top ten" any guidebook will give you that. There are also plenty of trip reports on this site (click on Portugal under "view by country" and look for the "world" icon) as well as the Destinations tab above.

If I could afford it I would stay at the Avenida Palace. As it is I stay at a guesthouse near by.

The airport? Why would anyone stay in a hotel at Lisboa Airport unless in transit?

Stay in Chiado or Baixa neighborhood.

We stayed in as prime location at the Avenida Palace (excellent hotel).

We took a taxi to the airport. Cost was about 12 or 13E so you can tell it was a very short ride.

Why stay at the airport?
