Searching for London B&B lodgings - HELP
Here I am again trying to plan my European vacation with my son again. Just to clear things, my son is a university student and I am an old Curmudgeon. We will be visiting from California of the United States.
We have found and booked lodgings in Edinburgh, Salzburg area, Munich, Verona (because my son has to see Aida and I lived there for 3 ? years & day trips to Milan and Venice.) and are still looking for London, our first stop and finally Rome, our last stop (whew).
Unfortunately the reviews of most of the London lodgings within our price range (£50 a night for both of us, or less) would make the Rocky Horror Show look like a Muppet (hand puppets) movie.
We are looking for lodging within walking distance (? mile ~ .9km) of an underground station as we will have purchased a London Card for our time there. Having driven all my life the American way, I do not trust myself to rent a car as I might do something natural to me which could be disastrous to others.
We are looking for a clean accommodation that a German Putzfrau would be satisfied with. We will be staying three days and wish an English breakfast with the accommodation. We plan on visiting the major government and historic sights of the town (at moderately high speed) and spend one day at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. All of our travel will be by public means.
I anyone has any personal knowledge of lodgings that would fit our modest needs, please blurt it out and share. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all, Rich Luttrell

One poster on this board - rj007 - always highly recommends this B&B:
http://www.serenade.ndirect.co.uk/
It's not central, but it's convenient to two tube lines.
How about a double room at a YHA hostel? Several would be very central.

I usually recommend Priceline, but wouldn't in this case because of your requirement for a good English breakfast.

Try this site...Best Bed & Breakfast...they do offer listings of B&B's in and around the London area (this URL will take you right to the London index) with full descriptions, prices, locations, etc.

I have used this site myself and was very satisfied.
Another one that came highly recommended is Wolsey Lodges...

continued .. yes cheap & cheerful brekkie (very - and not a rasher of bacon in sight).
I paid gbp 45 I think for a single room - so u might get a double for 50.
This is not a bijou place, but as stated before, clean, and very central. You can get to anywhere pretty much from Earls Court, and it is zone 1 on the tube.
Olivier Plaza Hotel, 33 Trebovir Road, SW5 9NF.

hope this helps.
You don't get a lot for 50 quid in central London!
