Recommended Hotel in Salsburg

I will be in Salzburg (driving in from Munich) for 1 night (2 adults + 2 teenage kids) on Sep 2nd. From there I am planning to drive to St. Moritz in Switzerland.

I would like to know a couple of good hotels to stay.

Depends on what you want to spend. There is a lovely Sheraton, a Meridian I think, a Radisson etc........all upper range. and good location..but I don't know about parking.
We spent two nights in April in SAlzburg, DRIVING also from Germany. Stayed at a lovely Best WEstern (Zum Hirschen) or something like that and it had a wonderful parking lot in the back. Is a bit out from the old town, and on a busy street, but very nice and a GORGEOUS very complete breakfast (a lot of it organic) and very friendly hosts.(and I think a "spa" on the top floor. There is another BW a few blocks away where we ate dinner,,good restaurant. ...also a small Shopping mall across the street, and bus stop a block away
to go to the OLD Town area. Salzburg is lovely...

We like to stay in the Altstadt in 3* places and we have enjoyed both the Goldenen Ente (600-700 year old building) and the Weisses Kreuz just behind the cathedral, at the foot of the HohenSalzburg castle plateau. Both had nice breakfast and convenient locations.

If you don't mind staying a short drive from the city, the Hotel Obauer (www.obauer.com) is a pleasant hotel with excellent restaurant in the small town of Werfen, home to a castle and the world famous ice caves (great activity for teens). From Werfen, it's an easy drive to Salzburg or a short direct train ride. Would give you a jump on heading over to St. Moritz as well.

Like Aisle Seat, we stayed at the Weiss Krauss. Very old, quant, quiet, right off the cathedral square on a coblestone little cul-de-sac. Nothing fancy, but clean and very nice owners. Our room had a shower and DEEP bathtub for a nice candlelit soak. Good Polenta, sheep cheese, and vegetables dinner, with wine about 9$ each. With Good wine! (but five years ago.) I would stay there again, no doubt.... but we always like to stay in the older sections, less modern bldgs. Kate

We stayed with 8 people, 4 of them children, at the Wolf Dietrich Hotel. It's across the river from the old town, but a very short nice walk, with lots of stores and restaurants on the way. The phone # is:
(43)0662 87 1275. Nice room; great breakfast; very attentive and helpful staff.

If you just want a comfortble place for the night, you could take a look at the Novotel--just across the river from old Salzburg and in the midst of restaurants and shops. The a/c is great, excellent to have when the humidity sets in.
