paris hotel for last minute trip

I have the opportunity to go to Paris for 5 days this month. I have been to Paris twice before and stayed at Hotel des Grandes Ecoles. That hotel is booked for the time period I will be in Paris. I would appreciate it if someone could recommend some other hotels (comparable in price to Grandes Ecoles) so I could check them for availability. The hotels do not need to be in the Latin Quarter.

Thanks in advance for your help with this. My first trip to Paris in winter.

what are you looking to spend per night, and is it for a single?

In a couple of weeks I'll be staying at the Grand Hotel des Balcons, in the 6th, it's a 2-star.

Do a search in the last minute database of Guides de Charme on http://www.guidesdecharme.com/conten...e+France#START

You can also search by typing in your dates. Hotels with availabilities will pop up.

Our favorite hotel is Baron de Beaumarchais in the Marais district. We have stayed there many times. Rooms are small but charming. Location is near the Metro, and the bridge going to the Isle St. Louis. The Bigeards, pere et fil, are very helpful and friendly as is the staff.

If room available it should run about $140.

We stayed in a clean and handy little two-star in the edge of the Maurais district called Andrea Rivoli that we really liked last week. We especially liked the location a block from the Hotel De Ville and four blocks from Notre Dame. And the price wasn't bad, $84 Euros/night for a double. They serve a continental breakfast for 7 euros but there are lots of other places close by.

another hotel in the heart of the Marais that gets consistently good reviews is the
Grand Hotel Jeanne d'Arc
It usually books up long in advance, but it doesn't hurt to inquire

i highly recommend the hotel st. thomas d'aquin, on the edge of the 6th but technically in the 7th - to me it was right in the best part of the st. germain in the loveliest area. it was mentioned off-handedly to me by francophile03, and i am shocked that more people on this board have not discovered it yet...or maybe they are better at keeping a secret than i am! anyway, my husband and i took a chance this fall and we thought it was a lovely value. I don't know how fast they get booked up, because it is fairly small, and only 120 euro per night. you can find their site at www.aquin-paris-hotel.com . good luck!

Miss emery, can you provide a few more details about this hotel, such as elevator, private baths, hair dryers, etc.? I checked out the website, and it looks great.

About a 5 min. walk from St. Germain metro?

Thank you!

When you narrow down your choices, it might be worthwhile to check on www.ratestogo.com We had good luck w/both the hotel location and price when we booked w/them. They are a European (British, I think) service who specialize in last minute reservations.

ok, so rmh is going to prague - but this is a reply to grandmere - i apologize for the delay! here are some details about the hotel st. thomas d'aquin: we asked for a street facing room, hoping for better light, and i would recommend that. the room was not bright, but perhaps brighter than not facing the street, but we liked how cozy it felt with the burgundy and brown and golden interior. everything felt newly renovated and modern but with a tasteful nod to the past - nothing creaky, and no cheap/ugly "antiques". we had the one room facing the street that had a tiny balcony (1 foot deep - literally) - but it was fun to pop out of the french doors to look down the quiet street. our room did not have an alarm clock, but we had one so we did not have to ask at the desk. i bet they could've accomodated the request, though. the rooms were small but i think that is to be expected - we really appreciated the tatseful decor and cleanliness. the bathroom was just fine for us, on the small side though, and split into two separate rooms - one for just the toilet, and the other with sink and shower (no bath tub, but maybe some rooms have this). my husband and i thought this was an easy enough arrangement - i could be blowdrying my hair (yes, there was a blow dryer, and some nice soaps and bath stuff) or doing my make-up and he didn't need to kick me out to use the toilet. there was a small cable tv, so one night when we were exhausted after dinner we turned on the tv and watched french news and sitcoms in french, just for fun. we never took the breakfast in the lobby, b/c we had such a list of places to try out, but it looked comfortable. the lobby/entry area was petite, but with fresh flowers and agreeable staff, and a sitting area that was not the breakfast area in case you were wating for a taxi or a friend. There was an elevator - i don't really remember it as we only took it once - we took the spiral stairs except for when we were checking out with our luggage. when we arrived early in the AM, they were very pleasant about stowing our luggage until our room was ready later in the day, and when we came back in the afternoon, our bags were in our room. there was a desk in the room, and a nice armchair, and a big armoire to keep your things in with enough wooden hangers. We weren't expecting the ritz - it is a 2* of course - but we were pleasantly surprised at the level of decor and were pleased with the level of cleanliness. i had wanted to stay at one of the other affordable 2* hotels that fodorites so often recommend (i had been thinking of the hotel muguet or hotel balcons, also in the 120 euro range), and when they were all booked i was really disappointed. it turns out we found our own little gem, that i think i like better than the sound of the other places - better location and style for our needs, i think! who knows really - we just had a great time, so i wanted to share in case there was anyone else out there panicking from overplanning anxiety! : ) PS - location was fab - i would say 5 minutes MAX to that subway stop, and the area felt very safe and upscale with perfect shops and a nice monoprix very close by to pick up the odds and ends we forgot to bring along.
