Nice hotel in Garmisch, Fussen or Mittenwald

Any suggestions for a nice ($200 or less) hotel in Mittenwald, Garmisch, or Fussen for two nights in May? Would one of these towns be better over the others as far as location, things to see and do? We are driving from Salzburg to the Rhine Valley - seeing sights along the way. Thanks for your help!

My vote would be for the Post-Hotel in Mittenwald. Garmisch is a larger town which is more expensive. The only thing recommending Fussen is that it is close to the castles. Don't miss stopping at the Wieskirche on the way to Munich.

When I'm looking for accommodations, I'll often sign into GoogleMaps.com for the area/city.
Then I'll magnify the map by hitting "+" two or three times--until little hotel icons pop up on the map.
If you click on the icons, it'll often give you customer recommendations and a link to their direct website which usually includes pictures, etc.

When you're looking for hotels and B&B's in Bavaria, don't worry about getting a sub-standard property. The area hotels are obsessively clean. Go for price and location.

Garmisch is larger and has more to do than Mittenwald. I have stayed in the Garmischer Hof Hotel, Alpenlodge, and Gastehaus Bridgitte. All 3 have free parking- breakfast is extra at the Alpenlodge. The Alpenlodge and Gastehause Brigitte have apartments and the rooms are much larger than the Garmischer Hof. All 3 are within 3 blocks of the main street in central Garmisch (Many restaurants, Casino, leave your car parked at the hotel and have a few biers). Price is $100/175 per night. Tripadvisor.com and Booking.com have a lot of options with customer reviews for hotels, restaurants, etc.

Have a good trip!!!

I'd go with Mittenwald also. Love Mittenwald but we stay in small B&B's and Pension's. We also loved our 2 stays in Fuessen at the Hotal zum Hechten.

Sonne Hotel in Fuessen was very nice and artsy. Post Hotel in Mittenwald perfect location and very nice. I don't recall the prices but worth checking out. Mittenwald is more quaint and attractive than Fuessen in my opinion but both worth a visit. Enjoy your trip.

I have stayed several times at The Alpenrose in Mittenwald. It is not a large hotel, but a real German guesthouse. No elevator. Breakfast is nice and included. Located right on the pedestrian street. inexpensive.

Hotel Bavaria Garmisch - I stayed there two years ago, charming place, quiet yet easy walk to town, very helpful hosts providing better information about the local walks than the Information Centre. A small, standalone property on it's own tree-lined section. Good breakfast - can't recall the cost but if I stayed there it certainly wasn't expensive. As Bamaman said - the hotel will be clean no matter what price.

Two years ago we enjoyed our stay at a Bed and Breakfast: Backeralm. Good breakfast, informative owners and great views! You can find it on TripAdvisor.

In my opinion and according to my experience (3years working in füssen), i recommend to book a hotel in Füssen why ,
because you will be in the center and is easy to go anywhere you want easily (Bus Station, Train Station, Taxi 24/24)and shops still open until 20h and some restaurants until 01h am.

here is my top list according to your budget
http://www.new-swan-stone.eu/2014/03...in-castle.html

things to do here is my list depending to how long you stay

For One Day Stay

Neuschwanstein Castle
Hohenschwangau Castle
Bavarian Museum
Marien Bridge
Pöllat Gorge Waterfall
Alpsee Lake

Two Days Stay

Tegelberg Cable Car , Toboggan
Füssen Town
Kristalltherme Schwangau
Linderhof Castle

any questions ?

We liked the Alpenrose hotel (Gasthaus) in the middle of Mittenwald.

We were staying in a hotel in Garmisch when we switched to a more traditional hotel in Partenkirchen which we preferred.
