Munich: Advice sought re: Hotel Torbraeu if you've been! :-)

Haven't had luck w/any other hotels yet for when we're heading to
Munich. And thus far only have an option on a Deluxe Dble room
for two nights, or regular Dble for 1 night. We need too,
but are disappointed the rates are so high.

Do you feel it's worth 194-280 Euros? (per night??)
The Deluxe Dble is 280, sadly.

I never imagined rates would be *this* high. The room pictures
on the website seem rather plain. But I can see the location would
be nice to have! Perhaps they will let us switch rooms to make
this doable...I'm just not sure yet. (even then, this is far more
than we'd hoped to spend)

I have looked up numerous Rick Steve's suggestions, but most are sold out.
Also, contacted the Platzl, but have not heard back.

Anyway, if you've stayed at the Torbraeu...just would love your thoughts
on the worth of the deluxe dble vs. regular double. Also...
are their any views to request? (for a bit more ambiance)

Or a side/street to avoid for noise or *other* issues?
Just wondering! I don't mind a little noise, if that happens to be
a more 'scenic' way to peer...for views/atmosphere. Just would
like to know where we are staying...and not think we are in anywheresville,
if you know what I mean? Thanks so much!

Those rates are outrageous and not justified. However, the location is within walking distance of Deutsches Museum and downtown Marienplatz. I've had bruch there and it was quite o.k. As the name says it at the (Isar) gate. The road has lots of traffic but isn't a main road since most of the traffic is routed outside of the former city walls. (Innenstadtring)

We stay at Sofitel Bayerpost or LeMeridien for less and both are 5 star hotels. We find the location very convenient and have enjoyed multiple stays at both hotels.

Have you looked at bookings.de? I personally find their reviews very helpful though the pricing is not always the least expensive. It does show availability.

You can check reseller websites like hrs.com for more reasonable rates.
Spending €200-280 per night on a hotel in that category is nuts -- except if you have to go during Oktoberfest. Then you will find prices double and triple of the usual rates.

Those rates do sound very high. We stayed in a double in July 2006 (I don't remember if it was regular or deluxe, but it did have a small separate sitting room) and I know we didn't pay 280 Euro. I do recall it having a very nice, good-sized bathroom (which is rather unusual in an old hotel). I don't recall the street being particularly noisy (we were there in a heat wave and slept with the windows open). As I recall there isn't much of a view. The highlight is being on the Tal by the Isartor and just a few minutes' walk from Marienplatz.
