Need guidance for trip from Venice to Bellagio in November

10 years ago, I believe I took a train from Venice to Como and then go by boat to Bellagio. But in November it looks like the boats do not run. I could rent a car, but being from Southern California, I would be concerned about driving if there was snow. Can anyone suggest alternatives to make the trek to Bellagio. It's our 10th anniversary and I am looking for anything that looks practical.

Also if anyone has suggestions since we will be going west through northern Italy toward Burgundy. We are looking for interesting towns/places for 2-3 nights. Thanks.

Richard, the first time I went to Bellagio I took a taxi from Como. I don't remember how much it cost but I think it took less than half an hour.

You can take a train from the Milan train station to Varenna which is closer than to Bellagio than Como, unless your train from Venice isn't going through the Milan station.

That I know of, ferries and hydrofoils do run in November, from Mondays through Saturdays (on Sundays things are indeed more difficult).

If you depart Venice, say, at 11am, you'd be in Varenna at 3:18pm (with a change in Milan). At 3:45pm/4:30pm there should be ferry departures to Bellagio. Instead of travelling to Varenna, you could follow to Como from Milan, arriving at 3:05pm. At 4:20pm there's an hydrofoil to Bellagio (arriving approx. 40min later). As a rule of thumb, it's faster to go through Varenna.

Another alternative would be to take a bus from the train station in Como. I did that a couple of years ago and it was full of local people going home from work in Como, so I'm sure it runs year round.
