Majestic Hotel Barcelona questions
Recent Trip Advisor comments about the Majestic Hotel range from awful to perfect. Rarely do hotel reviews vary so much on a hotel. The room selection makes the difference. (Classic rooms are too small, superior rooms are small if they have a great view?) I am totally confused.
Should I request a corner room with a balcony to ensure getting a larger, superior room? ( I am hoping the buy 2 nights get one night free offer is still in effect when we go next May)
Someone recommended room 721--any other room numbers we should request ?(we need two room).
We are VERY noise sensitive. I will have to trust all of those travelers who posted on Trip Advisor that the room will be quiet with the door/window closed. Or is this the wrong hotel for us?
Thanks for your comments.

I don't know if this will help or not. I have seen the Majestic, been inside but did not stay there, (we were at the Claris), it a beautiful, classic hotel. The Exiample is a busy area by day but rather quiet at night. The Majastic is on a major corner but even still I noticed that when we were walking by it at 10:30 the streets were practically empty. This was in February though.

I stayed in a suite there for 3 nights and it was nothing but gorgeous, quiet and fun. But, they don't get discounted and are hard to reserve.
If your priority is noise control, try to get an upper room away from the street and always ask to be "away from the construction." Hotels generally have constant renewal going on, and by saying that you stay away from the noise.

I would hope that by booking 8 months in advance that we will get our pick of the rooms. But often it seems that rooms are assigned on the day of arrival which is so frustrating for early planners like me. I will definitely request a high level room away from construction. Thanks for the advice. Glad to know that the street does quiet down at night but all it takes is a siren and we're awake for the rest of the night. Ear plugs are made for travelers like us.

About reserving: if you request a specific room number then you have a better chance of getting it. Even make up some BS story about how you stayed there before or how a close friend was there. . . whatever. It works better than the general requests.

I received an email response from Majestic reservations. The rooms are assigned on the day of arrival and room requests cannot be made in advance. The quietest rooms are on the inside but I read on this site that those are also the smallest. This is all too frustrating. Maybe I should consider another hotel?

If noise is a big concern I think you should try somewhere else. I stayed at the Majestic twice but many years ago (80s) so can't comment on the decor etc now. But each time I had a room on the street side and the rooms were large but there was a lot of traffic noise. Very bad on a lower floor (3ish ?), but not so bad on a higher floor (6ish ?). Noise doesn't bother me too much usually, but I do remember noticing it there.

I have been researching Barcelona hotels for the past several weeks. Every time I find a promising candidate, I discover disturbing comments on Trip Advisor. The Claris sounds great but people often complain about thin walls. The Apsis Atrium Palace looks like a winner until I read that between the school in the back and the noisy road in the front, it's impossible to get a quiet sleep. Surely there must be a 4 star tourist hotel in this same area which is quiet as well as convenient?
