ITALY IN MAY - weatherwise

My husband and I will be traveling to Venice, Florence, Vernazza & Rome between May 1-15. I am agonizing over the appropriate wardrobe for the season & those cities! We are challenged to "pack light" when traveling by train, so don't want to take unnecessary items! Thanks for any info!

I was there that exact same time last year, and it was absolutely beautiful. I had taken sweater sets, and they worked out well. I don't think I wore anything heavier than a jacket the whole time. We saw little rain. You will love it!

I was in Venice, Florence and Rome from May 1 to 15 and the weather was gorgeous except for two days when it rained heavily--I mean downpours. So take raincoat and sweater. Just remember that May 1 is a holiday in Italy, we arrived in Florence on May Day and it was very difficult to get around.

The weather in May is usually very nice, Cheryl. But, as you can run into rain or a cool night, I would recommend something like a lightweight cardigan & perhaps a rainproof jacket to wear what you might otherwise wear when the weather is between 65-85 degrees Fahrenheit. Sometimes that time of year, the heating systems in buildings are already turned off & you may run into a phenomenon in which the indoor temps run cooler than the outdoor ones. The sun as you head further south tends to be very strong, & please take sunblock if you normally burn.

Buon Viaggio,
BC

Search out "international weather" and you will not only find monthly averages but five day forecasts for the world.
