Ischia - should we visit for 2 days/nights

Spending time in Rome (3 nights) and Sorrento (4 nights); and have two more days and nights to plan. I'm just hearing of the island of Ischia and many suggest it as a better place to visit and stay than Capri. What are primary sights we might want to see; and what town should we consider staying in? Likely looking for a hotel or B&B at around $200 a night. Any recommendations? Is there a ferry that would take us from Sorrento to Ischia?

From Sorrento, you can easily take the boat to Capri. Capri's main attraction is the blue lagoon, but there is a similar lagoon near Amalfi (the emerald lagoon) which is easier to visit.

Otherwise, Capri is overcrowded by cruise ship tourists and a good place to spend a fortune in Gucci, Hermes and Armani stores.

Ischia has the hot springs and many nice hotels. I would recommend to stay there (although I cannot recommend a hotel).

There is a hydrofoil connection between Sorrento and Ischia:

Ischia for sure. We visited for four days in May 2012 and are returning for three weeks this May. We have rented an apartment in the Ponte. We stayed in the Monastero Castello.......fabulous and in your price range. The views from our room looking back into town was so special......visiting the Castello grounds a must do. There are many wonderful, other hotels I have read about with thermal pools and spas. GO there for sure.
