Question about Capri vs. Sorrento

Hi,

I am going to stay in Naples for couple of days from June 22nd until June 25th. I want to spend one night outside the town preferably in Sorrento or Capri. We are three guys that are doing this trip. I was looking if somebody can compare Capri with Sorrento.

Which one has more fun for three guys?

Which one is better to stay the night at?

thanks,

Paradiso

I have never been to Capri so wouldn't be able to comment but stayed in Sorrento years ago when I was backpacking through Europe. Absolutely loved it. Didn't stay right in the city but right outside of it since I was staying at a campground. Wasn't too far to walk into town and walk around the town. Wish I had been to Capri so I could give you insight into that place so you had an idea of which one was better but I am sure Capri is just as amazing.

I'm not sure why you're staying in Naples. I would do several nights in Sorrento (a fairly sizable tourist town with lots of restaurants, bars and some clubs) - from which you can visit Pompeii or take a ferry down the coast to visit the small villages.

Capri is an island which is much quieter at night during the day - but in summer has a lot of trendy restaurants, hotels, bars, shops, etc. Some interesting sights and some upscale hotels with great pools and nice beaches (beaches in Sorrento are in the more common mediterranean style - awful - rocks or pebbles and no amenities).

Capri all the way! I can't really tell you what it's like for three guys, and our reliable guide said it becomes amazing after 11pm, for apparently that's when all the VIPs come out. Capri itself is gorgeous! Never saw Sorrento at night, but it's lots bigger than Capri. I'll tell you what Capri does boast.....beautiful blue water, fantastic boat rides, a very mediterranean feel, stunning in the morning and afternoon light, sheer cliffs, great seafood, ultimate relaxation....shall I go on....

I'm not sure what you like, but I vote Capri!

Personally I would opt for Sorrento because there will be more options for nightlife. It is easy to do a day trip to Capri. I can't imagine there is that much going on in Capri at night. Sorrento is a much better sized town for a base.

Capri has plenty going on at night after the tourists leave - but it tends to be either locals or more upscale tourists. You will definitely see more "names" in Capri in season than you will in Sorrento.

IMHO either Capri or Sorrento is much preferable to Naples.

I would not skip Naples. It is an amazing city, though crowded and dirty. It is worth it for the pizza alone.

We just got back from Naples, Sorrento, Amalfi, and Capri. We loved staying in Capri, but I think it is better for couples at night. Very peaceful. I'd agree with the majority that you'll probably find more to do in Sorrento. Don't miss going to Marina Grande while there...it is great.
