Hotel Poseidon & Le Sireneuse, Positano. Good with kids?

Hi: Has anyone stayed at Hotel Poseidon w/ children? We have two girls, ages 10 & 15. I've read a post or two that leaves me thinking the hotel is not terribly open to younger guests. I have the same question re: Le Sireneuse. Thanks for any comments.

The last time we stayed at Poseidon there was a family enjoying a vacation with their children, a 8 or 9 year old daughter and a teen aged son. They all appeared pretty happy!

The hotel is a considerable walk to the stony beach, shops and restaurants. I don't know whether your children will like or complain about that...

Cannot comment on le Sireneuse, never having stayed there. We did walk into the lobby, however, and found it lovely and quite formal.

We stayed at the Villa Rosa family suite in March. We loved the hotel. It is across the street from the Sireneuse. One night the kids stayed in for pizza and we dined at the magical La Sponda restaurant in the Sireneuse.
Your girls are older so you should be fine. But Le Sireneuse seemed like an adult getaway.

All of those hotels will be more than "open" to younger well-behaved children. I doubt that you'll have any trouble at all.

Le Sireneuse is lovely BUT...We stayed at a Karen Brown recommendation and loved it. The name is Buca di Bacco. We loved it because it is right in the midst of the winding streets, right on the beach, the breakfast is worthy of my painting the abundant fruit and freshly baked pastries, the bar is classic, and the decor was wonderful..check out the handrail....(literally...ask them where it is)Their use of tile and fabric made me think of redecorating. The restaurant was so convenient and so good for people watching that we ate there several nights. On the last night we asked to buy the small water pitchers with their hand painted logo and the guy in charge gave us each one-he wouldn't let us buy them. If you take a boat to Positano there are porters who meet each boat. The official ones wear polo shirts, communicate by walkie-talkie(oh, for the good old days)and do a trust-worthy job of transporting luggage up stairs that even the most fit couldn't manage. They will reverse the action at the end of your stay upon reservations made by the hotel staff. This was my 28 trip to Europe and I was pleased to have a new place to add to my memories.Their fax is (089)87 57 31 or the ph. is (089) 87 56 99. Remember that you need the o11 then 39 before you dial.

As always, wonderful feedback. Many thanks.
tilburg, if you check back, I'm curious if your children minded the up and down hike staying at Villa Rosa?
artjoanne, Buca di Bacco sounds interesting. Being an Interior Designer, I appreciate the sense of detail which you describe. I wonder, if staying closer to the beach, one loses the much touted "vista" seen from a property higher up, like Villa Rosa? I guess at some point my family and I will just have to discuss the two options and make a decision.
Thanks again...........

I didn't see any children anywhere when we stayed in Positano (we stayed at the Poseidon). There isn't really anything for them to do - it's more of a romantic, couples type place.

I have to agree with the poster who called Positano more of a honeymoon/couples kind of place. I've stayed at The Poseidon a few times with my husband,(love the hotel!) but I probably wouldn't opt to stay there with my kids since it's a rather quiet retreat.

Have you thought at all about Sorrento? It's got some lovely hotels overlooking the Bay of Naples, and has much more going on for your kids. Too, it makes an easy base for day trips to Pompeii, Capri, and many of the towns along the coast.
