Accomodations at Venice Airport

We have an early flight out of the Venice airport, and will be arriving the previous day from Tuscany. Are there any accomodations available near the airport? The thought of getting out of Venice at 5am in the morning to meet a 7:20am flight doesn't sound appealing.

Thanks, Robert

We were in the same situation last week. I would warn you not to stay at the Fly Hotel, as it was REALLY bad. The Fly Hotel is now closed, and they are building a new hotel behind it. Try the Bestwestern Hotel Bologna. It is near the Mestre Rail station. Hotel has a website. I think this topic has come up before on Fodors as well.

If you stay in a hotel on the Fondamente-Nuovo side of Venice and get your hotel to arrange a watertaxi, it's only a 15-20 min. ride to the airport, without traffic worries. About 5 of the upscale hotels have their own watershuttles to the airport, too, which would seem foolproof but expensive.

Stay in Mestre and take the early bus or a taxi--we have done that and the bus ride is easy. There are several hotels near the train/bus station.

Robert - If you prefer to stay near the airport, here are a couple:

Stay your last night in Venice near the P. Roma and take a land bus or taxi to the airport. You can enjoy the evening in Venice rather than having to train back to Mestre. Not that Mestre's that far, you just don't need to stay there.

Is it difficult getting into Venice from the airport? I am flying over alone and someone will be meeting me there.

Easy - There's a frequent bus shuttle between the airport and Piazzale Roma. For details:

Otherwise there's an hourly Alilaguna ferry service to Piazza San Marco. Here's the link:

Hope this helps ...

Our favorite way is by water taxi. It's also expensive.
