A beautiful weekend in Burgundy: Villages, Countryside and Blue Skies

The gray Parisian weather left for a few days so I took advantage of the opportunity and along with the Mrs. headed to Burgundy for the weekend. It was a lovely weekend. I'm quite sure you'll agree if you have a look at my report and the multitude of beautiful pictures that are in it.

All those charming villages, so underpopulated (not even a photo of Mme FMT?), but yet, no for-sale signs. It's a mystery to me.

Thanks for brightening our cold, snowy January day too far from France.

Hello FMT

I read your journal last evening before bedtime and had dreams of your beautiful French countryside. Absolutely charming!

The only thing missing was a buttery, flaky croissant or a raspberry tart or a pistachio macaron or...

Wow. Outstanding work, FMT. I can only imagine how beautiful those villages are in early autumn.

Burgundy was already on my 'short list'. That list just got shorter.

Let me add my thanks for a well documented and beautifully photographed trip report. We explored this area a little bit in 2009 and will definitely go back again.

Thank you everyone for reading. I'm in a bit of a rush right now so I don't have time to reply to you all personally but I have made a new edit to the report that I think you all may be very interested in hearing about. If you go to the Semur section of my report look in "Reply #7" and you will learn about some strange, fascinating and completely amazing anecdotal history regarding Semur that will most assuredly enhance your next visit there. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Coco - I love promoting Burgundy. I'm happy to go there anytime. I've been south and east before but that was before I joined Fodors. I am most definitely coming back and I'll make sure to do a report on it this time. Perhaps I'll contact you for some tips.

swisshiker - That's why I put a warning in my introdution but if you get past it I still don't know that it quite prepares you for what comes next.

Hi, FMT,

lovely stories and pics.

apropos the difficulty in finding restaurants, i find that an up to date copy of the michelin guide is very helpful in this respect. what with helping to avoid dud meals, and the twon plans, IMHO it's worth every centime.

Now that's what I call a historical anecdote. Ah, Semur--really look forward to meeting the inhabitants when I visit someday.

Pam and John - Although Paris is usually gray and damp in the winter time I'll take it over the snow and freezing cold you are experiencing now. I'll look into my photo archives and see if I can come up with another trip report featuring blue skies and warm weather to take your minds off snow and freezing temps.

annhig and cafegoddess - Thank you for reading yet another of my goofy trip reports.

Leely2 - None of the residents of Semur asked me to "help" them with their sheep.

That's because it was a mild and sunny day. If it had been sleeting or snowing, everybody might have needed some activity to warm up.
