We are planning a trip to the four seasons in August. Has anyone been there at that time, and are there alot of children?

Which 4 Seasons??
nevis
I've been to Nevis and my wife and I stayed at the Golden Rock Estates. We did visit 4 Seasons on several ocassions and noticed plenty of kids. On the beach, we saw local native kids playing with the tourist kids nicely. There is a large open-air eatery which lets parents and kids eat in bathing suit, whatever, so you don't need to worry about "getting ready for mealtime." The beach is quite nice and will amuse them, and there's much open spaces to walk around the lush grounds. I don't know their ages, but horseback riding is offered just up the road from the main 4 Season entranceway. Robert
My husband and I just returned from the Four Seasons on Monday (June 9), we had a wonderful time, and while we didn't see *lots* of children, there were a few families there. One thing that's nice is that the hotel has 2 pools, with one reserved for adults (garden/quiet pool), and one beach side for families with kids. Most of the parents I saw tended to eat at the Pool Cabana restaurant, it's a more relaxed atmosphere. Are you planning on bringing children, or trying to avoid them?

As noted above, my wife and I strolled around 4 Seasons, seeing plenty of kids. But, that was during Spring Break, and were visiting on their vacation. I did pick up Monday April 21, 2002 resort newsletter, and noticed much to do with kids. Let me type off some of the activities: deep sea fishing for the family with Captain Matt, $200 maximum 5 children plus one supervising parent; snorkeling on the "Caona" with Lennox and his crew for $55; Nevis nights stargazing with Jim to learn about the stars and night sounds for $10; a hike with David to the rainforest ruins; etc. Besides the beach and ocean, there's things for kids to do there. Robert
Make that the 2003, not 2002 newsletter. Robert
Four Seasons Nevis runs lots of family specials for the summer (2nd room 1/2 price, etc.) and I have heard from several sources that there are lots of children there at that time.
I've been to FS Nevis twice, in Sept. and Oct., and at those times, there were no/very few children.
(I imagine this is due to school's not being out.)
Nevis as a destination is not really geared toward children, but if they're happy with the beach and pool and some sightseeing, they'll be fine.
(I wouldn't count on there being a lot of other kids though, imho.)
OK, here's a Best Kept secret to do with the family. Rent a car and drive to the Golden Rock Inn. Park the car in the small lot to the left of the office. Say "Hi!" to Pam and have lunch there, but tell her you'd first like to hike the short nature trail along the foothills of the volcano. The trail is well-marked, and you will with a 90% chance, run into a group of Green Vervet monkeys which live there. I hiked the trail a dozen times, and they began to get used to me, even threw a few mango fruits at me from above. Kids would love it to; about a 25 minute hike and well worth it if you see the curious monkeys. The owner, Pam, probably wouldn't mind you parking at their small lot, but having a lunch there would be nice, out of gratitude. Robert
Robert, I think that's a great idea for adults, but I am not so sure about kids.
The weather in Nevis is pretty variable, but it will likely be extremely hot, and I don't know how old the kids are, but 25 minutes in that heat and bugs (and maybe rain) with no guarantee they'll see monkeys may end up being not much fun for anyone.
If the kids are teens, that may work.
Also, Golden Rock is relatively formal as rests. on Nevis go - white tablecloths - and a B&B atmosphere.
Not meaning to disparage your suggestion Robert (I'll try that this year cuz I did see lots of monkeys in that area last year), I'm just not sure how it would work with kids (depending on their ages).
True, it would probably be OK for older children and teens. I've passed 9 and 10 year olds with their parents on the short rainforest hike. Chances of seeing the monkeys are pretty good, especially in the am. As far as lunch at Golden Rock, T-shirts, tennis shoes and shorts are fine; the dinners are much more formal, though. Robert
