hotel close to the Old Children's hospital in Calgary

I'm looking for a place to stay convenient to the Old Children's Hospital (17th Ave SW and Crowchild)

We'll be dependent on taxis or bus. I'm wondering if a downtown hotel might be better than Motel Village because of taxi availability. If not, can anyone suggest a midrange hotel in either area.

Are taxis hard to come by in Calgary these days?

Downtown would be closer than motel village - however, motel village will have cheaper rates. Really either would work, taxis should be readily available at either. If you stay downtown, it's a very easy bus ride to the old hospital.

Just a suggestion - I know that a lot of hospitals have special rates at certain local hotels for family of patients. Have you asked at the hospital of they have such an arrangement with a nearby hotel? It is worth checking with them. Good luck to you.

As traveller69 said, please check with the hospital regarding hotels that accommodate families of patients. A couple of those that do so for one of Edmonton's hospitals even have a courtesy shuttle from the hotel to the hospital.

Since this hospital is an out patient clinic; and there are no overnight stays, I presume the OP is only needing to get to and from the hospital twice (once to get there and once to get back to their accomodation). While your suggestions of shuttle services and special rates are worthwhile, I don't believe they would pertain to this clinic.

I realize that it is an outpatient clinic but sometimes outpatient treatments are for more than one day so it is still worth checking.

The Knobhill B&B is located couple of blocks from the hospital if a few minutes walk is doable.

I've never stayed there nor know anyone who has, but thought it might be a convenient location for you.

Wow - I'm obviously going to have to take a drive around Knobhill this weekend. This looks like a perfect solution for the original poster.

Thanks for all the input.

I was concerned that with the employee shortage Calgary has been experiencing, taxis might be scarce.

I never thought to ask about clinic discounts but you're right. They might exist. I'll ask.

The B&B may be perfect. It looks beautiful and certainly cheaper than the same quality hotel would be.

I'd still welcome specific hotel names if anyone has them. I used to live in Calgary and my memory of Motel Village is not inviting.

While I can't give specific hotel/motel names I can tell you that Motel Village is a lot better than what you remember.
