Fantasyland Hotel
Hi - has anyone stayed in one of their theme rooms recently. I'm thinking of renting one for a mother/daughter getaway but they are quite expensive and for some reason I have gotten the impression (can't remember where from) that the rooms are getting a little shabby.
On the other hand - it is very convenient and I like the idea of a jacuzzi at the end of an exhausting day shopping...

Hi!
I stayed at the Fantasyland Hotel about 18 months ago. It is an experience! It did seem to be a bit run-down and in need of a remodel, but it was fun to be able to walk out of the hotel and go shopping or watch them skate and play hockey on the rink inside the West Edmonton Mall. The lobby is in a corner of the mall and the hotel seems kind of busy all the time. You might consider the Hotel MacDonald in downtown Edmonton - it has a spa, it is a beautiful historic hotel that will give you a taste of Canadiana and overlooks the N. Saskatchewan River. There is a path along the river for walking or biking. The drive to the mall is a relatively quick one on Jasper Avenue.
Have a great day!

what a great idea juliae - I never even considered the Fairmont but we belong to their frequent guest plan. My daughter would love to be pampered at a spa..(this is to make up for all those father/son hockey games - our turn)
My only (minor)concerns would be convenience and security - we don't have a car and would have to take bus/taxis back and forth.

Jasper Ave. will not take you to the mall - it ends at 124 st. It is about 15 miles from the Hotel Mac to WEM, and the route is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a straight line. Taxis in Edmonton are, if I remember correctly (as I live here and own a car, I rarely take a cab) fairly expensive.

Hmmm - 15 miles. That is quite a ways. The Fairmont website says about 8.5 km. My husband lived in Edmonton briefly many years ago and said he thought it was a lot more than that. Does anyone know if the buses are fairly direct or if there is a shuttle to the mall from downtown. We will only spend one day (a long, long day) at the mall I think and then shop downtown Edmonton and explore a bit...
