Klondike Days

Have concert tix at Rexall Place during Klondike Days in July. I have no idea if these locations (Klondike Days Events and concert venue)are close to each other? Is there a hotel within walking distance? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Further to the above post, I have since found out that Rexall is at the Klondike fairgrounds. I won't have a car, so will be taking public transportation/cabs.

Which area would you recommend for teens: Old Strathcona or Downtown?

Yes, Rexall Place is close to the Northlands fair grounds where a lot of Klondike Days (festival) activities occur. Wouldn't recommend staying there however, it's quite an "industrial" area, even less desirable since you can so easily take the LRT ("light rapid transfer" = Edmonton's subway) directly from downtown right to Rexall.

Old Strathcona is without any doubt the best place for teens, but also for young adults as well.

Hotel recommendations depend on your price range. Lots of hotels downtown (the classic Fairmont = Hotel MacDonald, the Westin, Union Bank Inn, the Crown Plaza Chateau Lacombe, Delta Centre Suites, etc. etc., and even a few in the Old Strathcona - Varscona, and The Mettera on Whyte).

there is a hotel right across the street from rexal place and the k'day's location. www.coliseuminn.com. it is not a place i would usually recommend but, if i was travelling with kids who were going to a concert at rexal and were wanting to hang out at the k'day grounds for a day or two, it is very convenient. then, if someone wanted to go back and relax, the others could stay at the grounds and just come home when they wanted. besides the concerts at rexal, there are usually several good ones at the grounds. but, i'd only stay there on the nights you want to hang around the k'day grounds/rexal place.
otherwise, downtown would be most convenient with easy access to the train that will take you to k'days and rexall. there is also an event called the taste of edmonton that will be going on downtown. fun place to try out a bunch of restaurant food and they have bands playing at night.
old strathcona is a good place (varscona or met hotel). but, you'd probably have to take 2 buses to get to k'days/rexall.
have fun.

Thanks so much for your help. After doing a major hotel search I feel lucky to have found a downtown hotel at an almost reasonable rate during this time! Thanks for the Taste of Edmonton info too, I will definitely check that out, and am going to explore Old Strathcona as well.
