Marriot resort and spa
My husband and I plan to visit bangkok in the beginning of July. We plan to stay at the Marriot on the river after having spent a fabulous time there last year. The reason we choose this hotel was for the feeling of privacy and seclusion. I just read on tripadvisor that the hotel has changed management and their focus appears now to be on hosting big events (eg. weddings). Has anyone else experienced this recently? Would love to hear from Fodorites who always rave about this hotel.

none of that is true...i hate trip advisor...their info is so wrong much of the time...
we were there last week, including a weekend....on the lower level on weekends there often are weddings like at all hotels worldwide...i commented to my wife the lack of any wedding while we were there...usually they are not like american weddings and are much more quiet....the people leave right after the food is served...sometimes there are fireworks over the river...
the hotel has not changed managements, only general managers...its the same quality we have all grown to expect from the Minor Group...
we are going back there twice more during this trip...

How did your kids like the Marriott??? We are the opposite of you, having stayed there with just the 2 of us twice now, but this next trip we are taking our son, 9 years old!!!
BTW, we were in Cape Town 2 years ago and loved it!

Hi travelduo. My kids were 7 yrs and 1 yr respectively when we stayed at the Marriot last year. My 7 yr old son found the hotel far too grown up although he loved the boat/ferry ride from the hotel to the BTS station. The staff at this hotel are however highly tolerant and enthusiastic. At the time of our stay there were no other kids at the hotel. He did however thoroughly enjoy the latter part of our holiday in Bali at the Grand Hyatt hotel (the water slide at this hotel entertained him for hours on end).
