Travelers Insurance
I’m looking to buy two round trip airline tickets on Hawaiian Airlines from Honolulu to Papeete in Sept 2015.
I don’t usually buy airline tickets this far in advance, but the rate is really good. What I would like to know if there is a company I can buy my air travel insurance incase I’m not able to travel in Sept.?
Thanks,
Scott

Just make sure you investigate if policy allows you to cancel for any reason or just health. And if health, check out pre-existing condition exclusions. You can usually avoid this by buying the insurance within a short amount of time after ticket purchase (24-48 hours usually).

Travel Insured - www.travelinsured.com - offers a flight-only plan that includes cancellation for "covered reasons," but it doesn't include "cancel for any reason." Their pricing is reasonable as it also covers delays, lost luggage and missed connections.

The point is it would depend on your reason for cancelling Scotty. I don't know of any insurance that will let you cancel for 'any reason'. The acceptable reasons are usually spelled out very clearly.
Do you have any specific reasons in mind?

There are tons, you just generally have to pay more for that coverage. There's also cancel for work reasons, which can be really nice if your job is a bit unstable right now. As with ANY insurance you have to be sure to read the policy details closely before purchasing to be sure it will cover your needs, but sometimes that's a good middle ground for potential work headaches.

If you buy insurance, make sure it has broad cancellation policies. Most policies won't let you cancel for work reasons, for example. So called cancel for any reason policies can be expensive and must usually be purchased within a week of booking.

You can find both cancellation insurance and "cancel for any reason" policies - both types are available. They have different costs, obviously, as the "cancel for any reason” will no doubt be more expensive. It depends what you want to cover. As with all insurance purchases, read the small print or talk with an agent in detail to find out what is covered and work out how this matches your needs.
