Hotel del Coronado

$$$ | 1500 Orange Ave., San Diego, CA, 92118, USA Fodor's Choice

As much of a draw today as it was when it opened in 1888, the Victorian-style "Hotel Del" is always alive with activity, as guests—including U.S. presidents and celebrities—and tourists marvel at the fanciful architecture and ocean views. About half the accommodations are in the more charming, original Victorian building, which underwent major restorations that were completed in 2025: rooms in the newly remodeled The Cabanas building overlooking the pool have a contemporary feel and The Views building has remodeled rooms and suites with glass balcony railings for unobstructed ocean views. These rooms are closer to the pool and the beach, making them a good option for families. In the more secluded and exclusive Beach Village area, villas and cottages feature full kitchens, private terraces, and several bedroom configurations, plus access to a private pool. Spa guests also get access to the spa's infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Renowned sushi restaurant Nobu opened at the hotel in 2025.

Pros

  • 17 on-site shops
  • On the beach
  • Well-rounded spa

Cons

  • Some rooms are small
  • Expensive dining
  • Hectic public areas

Hotel Monteleone

$$$ | 214 Royal St., New Orleans, LA, 70130, USA Fodor's Choice

One of the grand old hotels of New Orleans, the Hotel Monteleone dates to 1886 and oozes sophistication, romance, and history. The rooms are luxurious with Italian bed linens and Keurig coffeemakers, and the ornate, baroque-style facade, liveried doormen, shimmering lobby chandeliers, and nightly live jazz warm many a traditionalist's heart. But time doesn't stand still here: the revolving Carousel Bar and Lounge, a see-and-be-seen spot since 1949, is still lively; the well-equipped fitness center has a great view of the Mississippi River; and the Criollo restaurant serves modern takes on Creole classics. Rooms and luxury suites in the hotel's Iberville Tower were fully renovated in 2024.

Pros

  • Great location in the French Quarter
  • Royal Street shopping
  • Fabulous and famous carousel bar

Hotel Parq Central

$$ | 806 Central Ave. SE, Albuquerque, NM, 87102, USA Fodor's Choice

A decidedly imaginative adaptation, the landmark Parq Central occupies a striking Moravian tile-trimmed three-story former AT&SF Railroad employees' hospital that dates to 1926. In the perky EDo neighborhood, near its notable restaurant row, the locally owned hotel is minutes from Downtown, UNM/Nob Hill, and the airport. The soothing, sound-blocked rooms have high-quality linens and fluffy terry robes. The hotel lobby, as well as its Apothecary Lounge rooftop bar (in which vintage 1920s cocktails are served), pick up the particular and appealing palette of the building exterior's period-tile details. A continental-style breakfast is included; enjoy it in the window-lined Parlor Room, or in the lovely back patio gardens. A small on-site fitness center is well-outfitted; in-room massage services can be arranged by the solicitous staff. And dogs will enjoy the run outside the main entrance; up to three may share your room.

Hotel Peter and Paul

$$$ | 2317 Burgundy St., New Orleans, LA, 70117, USA Fodor's Choice

A longtime neighborhood resident teamed with a boutique hotel group to renovate this former church and rectory, creating a one-of-a-kind hotel, supremely rooted in place. Hotel Saint Cecilia

$$$$ | 112 Academy Dr., Austin, TX, 78704, USA Fodor's Choice

Saint Cecilia goes beyond anything you'd expect in an eclectic, decidedly Austin accommodation, from the art deco–style bar to the neon lights that read "S-O-U-L" shining above the heated outdoor pool. No two rooms are alike on the swanky, highly exclusive South Congress estate, from contemporary poolside bungalows to suites in the historic Victorian main building, though each reflects an extravagant, vintage-inspired style in a rock-and-roll meets turn-of-the-20th-century France motif. All have luxurious Hästens beds, refinished antiques, and unconventional artwork ranging from Keith Richards portraits to vintage Cuban movie posters. An on-site café has an all-day menu.

  • Luxuriously spacious rooms
  • Exclusive vibe with grounds closed to the general public and frequent celeb guests

Hotel San José

$$ | 1316 S. Congress Ave., Austin, TX, 78704, USA Fodor's Choice

This hip, bungalow-style boutique hotel, located in the midst of South Congress Avenue, features a modern, minimalist style, adorned with balconies, patios, and tropical vegetation. Rooms cater to the young and happening, with concrete floors, flat-screen TVs, locally stocked minibars, and spartan, artist-driven interior design, like pine furniture created by artisans from Marfa, Texas. The pool is small but picturesque, and the bamboo-shrouded courtyard lounge serves bar snacks, beer, wine, and popular cocktails, like their signature champassions (champagne and passionfruit juice with raspberries). Jo's Coffee occupies the same lot, and several first-rate eateries and shops are a short stroll away.

$$ | 2719 K St., Sacramento, CA, 95816, USA Fodor's Choice

The architects of this courtly hotel, which opened with a splash in 2023, incorporated the redbrick Romanesque Revival–style facade of the 1928 structure that preceded it.
