Yankees/Red Sox game
Just so happens we will be visiting Boston this weekend and my son would love to see his favorite team, the Yankees, play. Living in Nashville, he has never been to a pro baseball game. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to possibly get tickets? I know the starting price is $500, but we thought maybe we could try to get them for less after the game starts. Any thoughts?

$500, $500 might get you a barstool at the Cask and Flagon. A game ticket is going to be WAY, WAY more expensive then that. One of my colleagues, and avid Sox fan, I like him nonetheless, told me at least a grand.
Fenway is the smallest park in baseball. The Yankees are public enemy number one in New England. The ALCS is a must have ticket.
Now, I say this as a parent. Attending Fenway, or Yankee Stadium, in the garb of the oppossing team (Sox/Yanks) at any point of the year, but especially at playoff time, is probably going to expose your son to words and actions that could scar him for life.
People will not care that he is a child.

Ryan, that's true. He was fortunate to have the opportunity 3 years ago, when he was 9, to be the bat boy at an Expo's game during spring training. I was told he learned to curse not only in English, but in Spanish too! They are selling tickets for this weekend's games beginning at $500 (for the least desirable seats).

One of the topics of sports radio here is the outrageous cost of tickets to this series - laws of supply and demand and all that. I would not count on price dropping after game starts.
If any Red Sox fans knew of some creative way to get tickets at a price that would not require re-financing our homes, we would. Because of this, scams are likely to occur - if you decide to try to get tickets, buyer beware.

The ticket prices at any time are really outrageous. There have been news reports of clamping down on scalpers, but why don't they do something about all these internet sites that buy up huge blocks, selling out the game, and then reselling at three times the price. It's nearly impossible to bring a family to a professional sports event or concert.
Well, if not "impossible," absolutely ridiculous!

Gail is absolutely right.. I'd probably sell my first and second born to be at a Yankees/ Red Sox game this coming weekend. In all honesty the best seats will be those in your home or a hotel room. NESN (lets not even talk about their incompetent and gabby announcers) had the audacity to put a Red Sox/Angels game on at 10:00 p.m. EST and I don't know many people who DIDN't stay u p until 2:00 a.m. You could manage to take him on a tour of Fenway Park during the series here...

Fact: www.stubhub.com has tickets for the game starting at $342 and going up to $1800. I can't vouch for the site, but I have heard secondhand that it's on the up and up.
Bloviating about the price of tickets at Fenway seems to be an obsession in Boston and produces a lot of unfounded stories (and prices).
In midseason, my son and I wen to a weekend game at Fenway -- Sox vs. Phillies in what was billed as the BIG interleague matchup of the year (Phils were in 1st place at the time). Everyone said, "Oh, you'll never get a ticket for less than $300."
We waited until a few minutes before game time and bought two tickets right behind 3rd base for $80 each (face value $40 each). I actually think if I had bargained harder I could have gotten them for less. And of course, I could have paid less for lousy seats.
My advice: If you're willing to pay up to $500, try stubhub or ebay. If that doesn't work and you're going to be in Boston anyway, head over to Kenmore Square and see what's available. You might luck out.

Lucky me - I have tickets to the 5th game at Fenway and we only paid face value. Unfortunately my dh and I are not sitting together. He's on third base, I'm over on first. But who the heck cares - we're in the park.
Selling them on Ebay is very tempting, but I hear PayPal is down so payment would be risky. I know someone who furnished their nursey with what they got for regular season Bos/NY tickets. But what the heck, I think we'll hang on to them.
And I disagree with Ryan - I've been to plenty Red Sox Yankees games at Fenway inlcuding at least one playoff game and while it does get a little dicey no one is going to bother a kid. No one pays $500+ to harass a little kid.
