We drove past this hotel while in Ft.Lauderdale this past November. It was ok looking. I'd suggest Marriott Harbor Beach resort. Located right on the ocean. BEAUTIFUL hotel!!! We would definitely stay there again. We got a good bid on priceline. Just bid for "resort" hotel in Ft. Lauderdale. Our bid won at $105.00 per night. We even asked to be upgraded to an oceanview room upon arrival. It's real close to all the action too.
Good Luck!!

My wife and I stayed at the Yankee Clipper in June 2003. It is a very nice hotel, but it is now a new hotel. There are 3 separate hotels that make up the Yankee Clipper. The main building, the building across the street, and the beach building. I would only stay in the beach building (which is where we stayed). Ask for a higher floor also. You can also see reviews of this hotel on tripadvisor.com. It is on the beach, but away from the main strip. I would stay there again.

The Yankee Clipper and the Yankee Trader are two Sheraton hotels at either end of the main tourist beach area. Both are very art deco in style (although not that old). Smallish windows and older style rooms but they are well maintained for the most part.

We met friends for drinks in the Clipper bar which features an underwater view of the pool. People in this pool do not often realize that people can watch them. The bartender pulled the curtain on one obvious honeymoon couple. This is the hotel bar featured in the Robert DeNiro movie: Analyze This! with the mermaids and all.

Nice location on the beach but the pool looked sort of pedestrian. It is right next to the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort. I'd try to get a good rate there before I'd bite on the Yankee Clipper.

Just so I am clear, the other Sheraton, Yankee Trader is a couple of miles north of the Clipper. Clipper is the one with the Don Shula steakhouse. (one of the poorer ones, IMO). LMF
