Excursions in Alaska
What are the best excursions to take for an Alaskan cruise? I heard something about a whale watch tour in Juneau. I also want to kayak around glaciers, where can i kayak close enough to touch the icebergs?

I liked the White Pass train excursion out of Skagway. Lots of Real history.
BTW, don't even THINK about going to the infamaous International Lumberjack Championships in Ketchickan. I met someone who worked there. They put on their costumes when the cruise ships show up.

The White Pass railroad is a great trip IF the weather is fine. Otherwise you'll be in the clouds and won't see a thing.
Skagway itself is very rich in history. Since the entire town is a national historic park, you can take a free guided tour by a park ranger through the town and get a real history lesson.

We took a "flight and float" excursion. Got on an 18 seat plane and flew right through Glacier Park. The whole thing was choreographed to music and was so incredible that half of us were crying tears of awe by the end. Then we boarded rafts and rafted back to the ship. It was a totally moving experience.
