Would like feedback on Hanalei Bay Resort

I have been given a timeshare exchange to use and am looking at Kauai. Has anyone stayed in the condos recently that could tell me whether I should request them. I know that the area is one of the most beautiful on the island. We would be in a 2br and are traveling with small children ages 2 and 4. Oh, and we'll be traveling in October. Thanks in advance for any info.

Stayed there 8/2001 & was not happy - we were in a regular room, obviously meant to be an addition to the 1BR next door. It was shabby. I've been told the condos are much better. The grounds are very well maintained and beautiful. It's on a hillside so you can end up parking quite a ways from your unit but they have golf cart "taxis" on demand. The restaurant & bar has a wonderful view, especially for sunsets. I thought the restaurant was overpriced but there's others not far away. Do you know which building you are in - I've got the resort map in my folder I think.

I actually haven't even requested this resort yet. I read a negative review on epinions, but it was only person had reviewed it. I could swear I've heard people rave about this place, but maybe it's just the location they love, not the resort.

Was the quality of the room the main reason why you were disappointed? Was the service okay and was it convenient to walk to the beach. I will be traveling with a 2yr old and a 4 yr old, so walking up steep hills does concern me a bit. Thanks for the input.

We actually viewed the place on a presentation. The two bedrooms are better. Great views, good location, nice pools, mind you, you know they show the best rooms, not the rentals.

It depends on if you are getting out and about or will stay on premise, too.

The beach is not too far, however, I am not an overtired, oversunned two or four year old. Ya, know, basically.... it depends on what you plan to do on your trip. I do not have kids, but, would consider it, it I did.

What timeshare program are you going through?

We are going through Interval International. We would be there for a week, staying mostly in the area, but venturing out for sightseeing maybe two or three days.

One reason we like having the condo is so we can still give the kids naps and put them to bed at a decent time, but still have room to enjoy drinks and/or a late dinner on the lanai, etc.

Did the resort seem pretty kid friendly? It seemed like the pools were nice and I know the kids would like the sandy pool. Thanks for all the info.

I haven't stayed in the condo's but the rooms were only average at best. The location is wonderful and the walk to the beach is fine.
