San Diego

Planning a first time trip to San Diego, Where's the best area to stay?

Chris, if you tell us what you would like to do while visiting S.D. or what the interests are, making recommandations will be easier. Also when this trip takes place and budget also need to be taken into consideration.

Coronado Island or La Jolla if you want to do the beach thing and go to cute shops and restaurants. Downtown if you want to do the mall, ferry rides, navy ships. Hotel circle if you want to save money and drive to everything.

That is a great way to sum it up. Also, most hotels are very helpful there in pointing you in the right direction most attractions.
I've been there 25+ times with my husband on his business trips. I always find myself heading to the beach or back to Balboa Park. Lots of interesting things to do there.
