I have stayed at the Caleo three times the past year. I have been pleased each time with the service and the resort in general. It appears to me to be an older resort that was purchased by a corporation that is "fixing up" resorts throughout the United States. The grounds are small, but quite nice. Large trees and vegetation. I have taken two different groups of friends there for my stays. I was a little leary because each of my friends are used to staying at five star resorts. They just loved it there and are planning on returning. It is right on Scottsdale Blvd.--within walking distance to Old Town Scottsdale and the huge Fashion Square Mall. They provide transportation within 5 miles. So...if you want a ride to and from a restaurant for dinner there is no charge. I would recommend their lunches. One of my friends used their spa services and was quite pleased.
The rooms are newly renovated. Two pools. One is a sand beach pool. There are fire pits located in various areas on the grounds for evening enjoyment. The only complaint that I would have is their wooden patio furniture. It is not too comfy. Nice sheer drapes on the patio.

Also---make sure that you request a room overlooking the center courtyard and pools. You don't want to look at the parking lots or listen to the noise from the busy streets. You don't hear any of that on the inside courtyard rooms!

I love this place. I've stayed twice in the past year (and would continue staying there but bought a condo nearby so no more hotels for me). I first discovered it because of friends who love to go there for weekends without their kids. It has a small intimate feel and the price is right. The outdoor firepits scattered about the courtyard are quite romantic.
The hotel restaurant, Baleen is listed in a recent "Phoenix" magazine as one of the top 20 new (opened within the past year to qualify) restaurants in the area.
The free Cadillac Escalade shuttle until 11pm is very handy (although I thought the distance was 3 miles max rather than 5). It will get you north to the Borgata shopping center (good little Thai place, nothing fancy) and south to Old Town Scottsdale (Malee's on Main- more Thai!) with no problems.
I am an aerobics instructor and my club owner and I stayed at Caleo last fall and we both loved the little workout room. Nice equipment. We didn't try any spa services.
My only complaint about the place is the lighting in the bath/sink area of the rooms isn't bright enough to put on makeup very well. I always sat at the desk by the window with curtains opened so I could see to do my makeup.
