Help. Never been to Yosemite. Looking for recommendations on lodging. Boyfriend and I plan to visit Yosemite for a few days in early June. He is serious outdoor person, I am not. Want something nice and not too rustic. I have found several websites with listings on lodging but would like to choose housing that comes with recomendation.

For location, location, location then you want to stay in Yosemite Valley. I'm sure the Lodge in the park is probably booked by now but you can keep calling to see if you can get in on a cancellation. If you have big bucks then you could try the Ahwahnee.

We stayed at the Ahwanee for my husband 50th BDay and it was wonderful...even if it is booked make friends with the Concierge...you may get lucky. She was able to upgrade us to a great..suite...

Curry village should satify your housing needs and also fulfill your boyfriend's outdoorsiness. Yosemite lodge looked nice, Ahwahnee too high end for an outdoorsy place (IMO). It's the same reason I like to stay at Bright Angel vs El Tovar in Grand Canyon. ...but that's just me. Curry Village has a nice younger vibe to it (late 20's to early 40's type of youthful ;-) ).

If money is not an issue, I would stay at the Ahwahnee Hotel. Dinner at the hotel requests gentelmen to wear jackets. Or the Wawona Inn.

This June? You may have to hope that you catch someone's cancellation. It's pretty late to get reservations in the park. Take Yosemite Lodge if you can. OUtside near the valley is ElPortal, Yosemite View is nicely located next to the mighty Merced River. If nothing ther you could try Wawona or all the way out to Fish Camp.

Maybe you could list what places you have found available for your June visit and we can tell you which is best.

BTW the Ahwahnee has relaxed its jacket requirement for men at dinner. You can now get away with being in a nice shirt and pants.

The 2005-2006 issue of the National Park Service Yosemite guide states the following "Attire for breakfast, lunch, and Sunday brunch is casual. For dinner, collared shirts and long pants are respectfully requested for men". In the Yosemite Today they now only list "Appropriate attire is respectfully requested
for dinner"

The dress requirement at the Ahwahnee Dining Room was relaxed last Spring (2005).

Vero, the Tenaya Lodge is very nice. It is in Fish Camp. It is rustic elegance and a four-star destination resort. Swimming pool, spa, two restaurants, the whole bit. Have a great time in Yosemite! ***kim***

When making reservations, please go to www.yosemitepark.com. I initially used National Park Reservations and found that I had been booked at a more expensive place and charged 10% of the total stay at the expensive place. I was aware of this charge, but thought I would be at the inexpensive place. Please avoid National Park Reservations. They would not even consider adjusting the charges for the cheaper accomodations.

It was good of you to let others know about your experience with nationalparkreservation.com so they could avoid having a bad experience. If you haven't yet taken your vacation I do hope you have a great time. It's such a beautiful place.

I've stayed at the Tenaya Lodge and it is nice. Unfortunately, it's quite a drive into the park. If moneys no issue, the Ahwanee is the best choice.

Yosemite Lodge was a bit dated when we stayed there two years ago (maybe they have redecorated), but the location is unbeatable and we were comfortable there. One night we ate in the restaurant (which was good) and the next night we got food somewhere that we ate on out deck.
