Where to stay in Cape May?

Going to Cape May for a few midweek days and looking for recommendations for a place to stay for, hopefully, under $200 a night. Found two specials on Expedia--Madison Avenue Beach Club Motel and the Jetty Motel--that are under that price. Any thoughts on these or other recommendations? Ideally, we want something within walking distance of the beach
Thanks in advance for your input.

Our favorite place is the Carroll Villa Hotel. Breakfast on the porch is the best anywhere on the planet.

Thanks. It looks good! Tell me more, like, how close to the beach?

Cape May has dozens+ of Bed & Breakfasts, many fewer motels. You mention motel specials from Expedia in your OP, but I suggest you google Cape May B & B's.

As far as a specific one, I've stayed at quite a few over the years but none recently enough to recommend (w/recent knowledge). They vary but most are interesting experiences. It's fun coming down to find out what they have made for breakfast, or coming back from the beach to find afternoon tea and cookies on the porch. More so than a motel, IMO.

YMMV.

The Virginia Hotel is beautiful. I stayed there in May, was about $250/night. Worth it and only a block from the beach!

I've stayed at the Virginia, Congress Hall and Star Motel. All three were fantastic. The prices will vary so I would check all of the websites. Other than the ones I've stayed at, there are tons of bed and breakfasts that are really nice.

For the best beach experience, I would do Congress Hall. I'm pretty sure they will also give you chairs to sit in.

The Bedford Inn is the best. One block from the beach and great hospitable proprietors.

We ended up staying at the Sea Crest Inn on Beach Ave. and were very satisfied with our choice. We wanted to keep the price under $200 a night which limited our choices. With taxes, it came to a little over $181 a night.
The location, right across the street from the beach, was great. The room was more than adequate and included a refrigerator and coffeemaker.
We were a little nervous beforehand, as they only accepted cash...no credit cards. We thought it odd in today's world, but, as I wrote, it worked out fine.
We'd definitely stay there again.
Cape May? It's great!!!
