Okay I'm totally lost looking through all the Cape Cod info. I know I want a hotel not a b&B. It has to be clean, clean, clean. My mother has allergies. I don't know what town would be best to stay in or what hotel would work. We are looking around $250 or cheaper since we will need two rooms in mid Summer.

Hello, Check out the Innseason Resorts in Falmouth (Captain's Quaters). It's located on Falmouth Heights Beach.

Chatham is your best bet. It is probably the most upscale area of the Cape and also the most centrally located. Contact the Chamber of Commerce for a reco.

Chatham is lovely, but I don't think you're going to find any hotel rooms on the beach for $250 or less per night.

As you probably can tell, most of the places to stay on Cape Cod are either motels, cabins or bed and breakfasts. There are no hotels on the water on the outer cape since the Cape Cod National Seashore has prevented development of the beaches. Your best bet is to go to the Chamber of Commerce sites for towns of Dennis, Yarmouth, Falmouth and Chatham. I am curious....why don't you want to stay at a bed and breakfast?

Re it has to be clean, clean, clean. Re mother's allergies. To what is she allergic. Every place you go to on Cape will have some trace molds, even if not visible and it has nothing to do with cleanliness - it has to do with humidity. Pollen, dust - also everywhere.

We stayed at the Sandbars Motel in North Truro last year and it was wonderful. Very clean, right on the beach, and 5 minutes to Provincetown, where there are tons of good restaurants, art galleries, etc. So you have the best of both worlds since Truro is really quiet. Their website is http://www.sandbars.com. I highly recommend this place and I know it was less than $250.

Webster's dictionary defines hotel and inn the same way "a place for lodging".

If you are thinking of hotel as in a high rise, national chain like you might find in Miami, no, you won't find that on the Cape.

But there are plenty of inns that are good-size, with plenty of different rooms as well as many amenities and are on the beach.

These places are too numerous to list so you will have to do some research on your own, but here are a few to get you started.

Lighthouse Inn, The Soundings - Dennis; Red Jacket Resort - South Yarmouth; Sandcastle Resort & Provincetown Inn.

By the way, the last two above are in Provincetown which the last time I looked is on the Outer Cape.

Lighthouse Inn in Dennis is very clean and nice, meals are included and there are a lot of families.

Seacoast Inn in Hyannis is very clean, has been non-smoking for years, and is in town not on the water. Walk to shops and restaurants and the harbor, Hyannis is a very nice place to base yourself but there is a lot of hustle and bustle mid summer. If you don't stay in Hyannis, at least stop at Jackie Kennedy's favorite Four Seas Ice Cream in Centerville for a cone!
