Where to get Mets tickets
Hi We are spending just 3 days in NYC from 8-11Aug 2006. My 16year old son is Baseball mad. Unfortunately the Yankees are away so I am trying to get tickets for the Mets. I have had no luck on their website. We live in the UK so this is his only chance to see a live game. Please can anyone help a desperate mother.

Tickets go on sale February 26th on their website...if it's too busy that day, you'll probably still be able to find tickets a few days later, or on off hours (being from the UK) they're playing Sand Diego mid-week those dates, so it most liekly wont sell out...

No worries, Nelderwoman.
Single-game tickets don't go on sale until February 26th. Baseball season starts in early April and lasts until October.
Mets games almost never sell out, especially midweek ones. Just go to the stadium about an hour before the game and buy some tickets there. I would faint with shock if a Mets-SD series didn't have tons of tickets available.

When they do become available, you can purchase them on the mets website, www.mets.com. WHen in NY you can also buy them at any Met Clubhouse store.
They also have lots of pomotions (giveaways) during the summer which they will list on the website. The Mets (hopefully) have a good team this year, and Mets fans are a very loyal bunch (my almost 15 yr old is one!). They may not sell out as often as the Yankees but they do pack them in on weekends and if they are playing a hot team.
If you get there a few hours early, you can go down to the seats behind the dugouts to watch batting practice and try to get autographs.
When in the city, have lunch at Mickey Mantle's (Central Park South).

For your baseball crazy son, tours of Major League baseball parks are usually inexpensive and fun - mlb.com has links to every major league team and their websites give info abour tours - usually last an hour or so.
Another fun baseball thing to do is to see a minor league game - totally different atmosphere than big league game - if you had more time I would recommend finding out what minor league teams are in NY area and seeing one of their games.

The Mets have a minor league tream, the Brooklyn Cyclones (they play in Brooklyn). The Yankees have a team in Staten Island (I thnk the S.I. Yankees). Both are very popular, and beacuse the stadiums are much smaller they do sell out quickly. There are some other team that play in NJ and Lond Island.

It will be MORE DIFFICULT to get tickets for a Minor League game than for a Mets game. Brooklyn Cyclones tickets usually are completely sold out for the entire season the frist day they go on sale. Same deal for the S.I. Yankees.
The only other Minor League option you can get to without a car is the Newark Bears, which play in downtown Newark, NJ. This is a rough area and is much farther than Shea Stadium.
Go see the Mets.
