spring training game tickets

We will be in the Phoenix area the first week in March and would like to see at least one spring training baseball game. Are there usually tickets available at the stadiums the days of the games or do we need to order them ahead of time?

Any suggestions what company to buy tickets from? I would like to surprise my husband with tickets for the Chicago Cubs game in Mesa, AZ. What seats would be the best? Well, maybe the second best?
Thanks

If you can't get tickets directly from the team's site (in other years, they have always sold out, don't know about this year), I have had great success getting excellent Giants spring training tickets on Craigslist.

How about tickets for A's games? Do they usually sell out ahead of time?

Most of the spring training games sell out in advance. I would try each teams website to find tickets. If you cant get them there its legal for scalpers to sell tickets here in Phoenix if you cant find any by your trip. They cannot be on the stadium grounds so look for them somewhere around the front just off the property.

I ended up ordering tickets ahead of time for an A's game (against the White Sox). Turned out the stadium was about half full for the game so there wouldn't have been any problem buying tickets that day. This was the third game of the spring training season so maybe later on things would have been different.
The game was a fun experience, tho.
