Where to Eat in Park City and/or Alta?

Thanks again to everyone who has provided advice on our upcoming trip to Utah from August 4-9. We will be staying in Park City Friday - Sunday and then moving to Alta for hiking access on Monday and Tuesday nights.

Last thing (hopefully) we need help with is FOOD (admittedly my favorite part of travel!). Would love to hear suggestions for both good cheap eats as well as fine dining in Park City and the Alta area. We would also consider venturing into SLC one night if there is a can't miss restaurant there.

What are some of your favorites???
Thanks in advance!

Hi dananddar---for Snowbird/Alta, see my answer to your "lodging in Snowbird/Alta" post (which I didn't see until today; I hope you found something that works out for you!)

My favorite sort of cheap eats in Park City is Windy Ridge Cafe.

Hi Dan,

I used to work at the Steak Pit at Snowbird and it's still my favorite. Also very good in the canyon is The Shallow Shaft, res are needed.

In Park City my favorite "reasonable" place is The Eating Establishment" on Main Street. My favorite expensive place (so far) is Grappa at the top of Main Street. In Deer Valley it's Glitretind at Stein's.

Hi Barbara!

Hi Dayle---it the Shallow Shaft open in the summer? Maybe only weekends or certain nights? We've never been able to get in there during our August visits.

Hey Dayle - thought you'd be away for the long weekend. Did you check out my South Dakota report?

Hi again, dananddar---yes, we'll be there the same time. If you see us, give a shout (like "hi Enzian!). Here's how you can recognize us---we are a group of six: two adult couples, and two teens (one boy and one girl). I hike with one hiking pole; the others do not usually use them. Most of us wear yellow "Live Strong" wrist bands (because one of us has had cancer). When hiking, we stop alot for photo ops. Occasionally (generally late afternoon) we can be spotted playing cutthroat croquet on the lawn behind the Cliff Club.

I hope you enjoy this beautiful area.

Enzian,

Yes, I think the Shallow Shaft is very limited in summer. I'll find out for you.

Hi Barbara! No, my company is international so we don't "do" Pioneer Day, unless you use a floater! I'll definitely check out the SD report - have never been there - yet!

Excellent! Thank you, Dayle. We must have always tried on a Monday or Tuesday. Needless to say, it's hard to get any information about it from the Snowbird information center! We enjoy our dinners at the Steak Pit, Lodge Bistro, etc., but after once each, we're ready for something new. We'll make a reservation when we arrive for a table the end of the week.
