I thought I had stayed in good hotels, like the St. Regis in NY, the George V in Paris and the JW Marriott in Cancun. All of these are really good properties with excellent service.

However, I had never stayed at the Four Seasons in Istanbul. They completely redefined "service". When the porter meets you by your name when you first arrive in the hotel, you know you're in for a treat.

A special mention to the San Jose in Austin. It is certainly not Four Seasons / Ritz Cartlon caliber, but there's no hotel in the world where I feel more comfortable. Nicely appointed rooms, very relaxed attitude that seems genuine (not rehearsed like the W), great toiletries...

Las Brisas - Acapulco, Mexico. Welcome cocktails upon check-in, great service, lovely grounds, private pool and jeep for each suite, fresh flowers put on our bed and in our pool each day, as well enjoying personally delivered breakfast each morning over a glorious view poolside.

In the US the Mandarin Oriental in Miami - the service is to die for.

Outside the US - the Georges V - it's legendary for a reason.

The Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, WV is luxury and service at its best. The Spa, the food, the service; everything is perfect. Take advantage of the off season. It is very quiet and you encounter no problems getting appointments for spa treatments

The Hotel Danieli in Venice, Italy; the Schloss (Castle) Fuschl in Salzburg, Austria (best meal ever!); and the Hotel Alfonso XIV in Seville were all spectacular!

I think my favorites are:
Four Seasons Maui
Ritz Carlton San Francisco
Peninsula Chicago and
St. Andrews Golf Hotel (not because it's as nice as the others but just the atmosphere and location are amazing, if you're a golfer)

I recently stayed at the Tropicana Resort & Casino and it was wonderful! The view from my room in the Island Tower was great! The employees were very nice and helpful and the location can't be beat. I highly recommend the Tropicana for your next visit to Vegas- I did and I am so glad!

lorrie41, you are joking, right? The Tropicana is the BEST hotel you've stayed in? The best? The only posts you've made to date are the three that have been about the Tropicana.

Suzie,
"Best" is a relative term, and everyone has his/her own frame of reference based upon the type/amount of travel they've done. I could hardly believe that someone at the very beginning of this thread first said "Bellagio" and when he/she found out international hotels were included changed to the Georges V. In my opinion, Bellagio & Georges V cannot be spoken of in the same sentence; apparently not everyone shares my opinion.
