Interesting list Dr. Schnitz!
We almost laughed out loud when we checked into the Villa Principe Leopoldo in Lugano....like something straight out of Austin Powers! Very grooovy, baby. (We didn't care for it, actually).
We also checked into the Dolder Grand before internet era info allowed for good quality travel research, because Rick Steves said it was the best hotel in Europe. Well...Steve's stayed in a lot of hostels so we'll give him a break (we didn't stay in the tower suite, however).
Most people don't mention those places on the Fodor's site, it seems.
Gave me a humorous pair of flashbacks.

The Fullerton,Singapore. They call themself a 6* hotel but the divine combination of the heritage architecture and the Phillipe Starck interiors overlooking the river did it for me!

- Lake Placid Lodge: True bucolic elegance
- The Duchamp Healdsburg: Great boutique hotel and wine country experience
- Park Hyatt Chicago: Great vibe (not overdone like so many W hotels)and awesome views of the water tower
- Westin Tremblant: Got to love those heavenly beds when it is cold out
- St. Martin's Lane London: Way chic, but fun

We are hitting the George V in Paris, Bretagne in Athens and Blue Palace in Crete this year and am expecting one or more of those make my list.

Kildrummy Castle Hotel in Scotland.

Banff Springs Hotel (15 years ago).

1) Charleston Place (S.C.)

2) Renaissance Wailea, Maui (in it's heyday, when it still woke you with a silver tray of coffee and tea!)
