What to wear to Broadway shows?
We're going to Spamalot this Friday, Fela Saturday, and In The Heights Sunday. At least one of those days--probably Friday--we won't make it back to the place we're staying to change. We'd like to wear jeans and comfortable clothes for all of the walking during the day, but I'm wondering if we could go to a Broadway show dressed like that. Maybe Spamalot? I'm guessing it might be more casual?

You will see all kinds of dress. Many in jeans, so by all means be comfortable on that day. We do try to dress up for Broadway, because we enjoy doing so and it seems proper for something special -- but it is by no means required.

We were just talking about dress for shows this morning.
You can wear jeans to Broadway shows.I've seen people in shorts and flip-flops.
I don't spend over $100 per ticket for anything other than Broadway. I like to get dressed up, at least a little, to make it a more special event.
Maybe wear black pants & a nice shirt and carry dressier shoes in your purse to put on at the theater?

Excellent, thanks for your replies! I definitely plan on dressing up for the Saturday and Sunday shows. I don't think the Spamalot crowd will mind our jeans too much.
Oh, one other question...how early should you get to the show? With assigned seats, I assume it's not a big deal to get there 15-20 minutes early. For the Fela show we have general admin for the balcony. Plus it's the last weekend the show is running. I'm thinking we should get there an hour early. Does that sound right?

I would call the theater to ask what time they allow people into the seats. Some smaller theaters don't open the theater seating area until 30 minutes or less before the performance time.
