Safe Running Trail Near Marina District?

Will be spending an upcoming Fri in SF and have the AM free till the afternoon House of Prime Rib/Alcatraz tour/O'Reilly's pub agenda kicks in. Staying at a hotel on Lombard & Fillmore, looking for a scenic SAFE trail to do ~4-5 mile run to alleviate any guilt from the upcoming evening's activities. Presidio? Golden Gate Bridge? I'll have a car. Thx!

Do you actually mean a "trail" or just a "route"? Open the mapquest map of San Francisco. From Fillmore and Lombard, head toward the Bay on Fillmore (to Marina Blvd.). Turn right on Bay Street and go all the way to the Embarcadero, then turn right and run alongside the Bay as far as you want to go. The first part of this route will be through mostly residential/commerical neighborhoods, the latter part will be a beautiful route along the water (including past all the piers, under the Bay Bridge, etc.)

Or you can head down Fillmore to the Marina Green make a left and run along the Bay into the Presidio and through Crissy Field. A very popular route with runners and very beautiful as you will be running towards the Golden Gate Bridge. If you are feeling ambitious you can take a trail up to the Bridge.

People were running along the Coastal Trail from Cliff House to GGB. I think it is about 4 miles one way -- could park and take muni back or make a loop from Cliff House to Seacliff and back.
