Whale Watching -- Provincetown or Bar Harbor?

My family and I will be on vacation in July and we are visiting Cape Cod and Bar Harbor. We would like to take a whale watching tour, does anyone have any recommendations on which location may be better? Thanks.

I don't know about Bar Harbor, but Provincetown is so close to Stellwagen Bank (where the whales are) rhat you can sometimes see them from Race Point beach.

The Dolphin Fleet has marine scientists from the Center for Coastal Studies as narrators on their WW cruise.

Definitely Provincetown. If you go out of Bar Harbor, most of the time spent on the water is to get to the point where the whales feed. At least P-town is near the Stellwagen Bank. We went out of Plymouth,Mass. & the ride went near P-town. It was glorious. We saw so many whales. Our trip a couple years later out of Bar Harbor wasn't so good. We saw 2 different whales. They were so far away from us , they looked like specks on the horizon. Each trip is different. Have fun & good luck.

I agree with Candy210, we had our closest encounters with whales from Plymouth Mass. Capt. John Boats.

I agree with Provincetown. You are virtually guaranteed to see whales due to the proximity of Stellwagen Banks.
