I agree with the suggestion to ask the concierge at your hotel - how do some of those people seem to know everything?
If not - SMARTY is having such a huge impact on the entire sport of horse racing and creating such interest for even non-racing fans, I can't believe you'll have a hard time finding a sports bar where people are "into it."
I was in NYC last week and was wishing at the time I could be there for the Belmont Stakes. I would have gone to the track - but sports bars should have this race at the top of their list.
Have you looked up the locations of NY OTBs to buy your tickets before going to the sports bar to view the race? They of course have a telecast feed and the people there are very into it, but the atmosphere may not be what you're looking for.
