Walmart or other store in Lihue?

We will need to pick up a few things like a cooler and beach chairs on our way to Poipu from the airport. Is the Walmart in Lihue the best place to do this? There is a shopping mall on the outskirts of Lihue as you are traveling towards Poipu, but I can't remember what's there (except for the Kauai Bakery...malasadas..YUM). Is there a store in that complex? Thanks for the help.

There's a Kmart next to the mall.

We always stop at the Wal-MArt outside of the airport and pick up any supplies that we need or that we forgot.

when you exit the Lihue Airport, go straight at the traffic light. Drive up Ahukini Rd for about a mile. Turn right at Kuhio Hwy (where Ahukini ends).
You will see Walmart on the right. It is much better than the K-Mart.

You will see Wal-Mart on the right side. Don't shop there. It is the downfall of America.

jor,
I totally agree with you. I'd rather not shop at Walmart. That is why I was asking about other stores as well.

We found Long's to have variety and great prices on all sundries both on Maui and Kauai. Isn't there a Long's in Lihue. - I'm trying to remember exactly where it was, so residents help!

There is a Longs on Nawilwili Rd in the Kukui Grove Shopping Center in Lihue and one on Kuhio Hwy in Wailua Shopping Village just south of Kapaa.

Having just spent 6 years on Kauai, I can say with authority that Walmart is the cosmic vortex of the island, LOL.

vivi,
Wow! I thought vortexes (vorteces?) only existed in Sedona! Now I'll know what is happening when my car turns into the Walmart parking lot all by itself. :-?

We ended up having to shop a bit more and went to KMart instead of Walmart and what a pleasant experience it was - no crowds, easy to get around in, etc. The Lihue Walmart is a nightmare to get around in, small aisles, quite crowded the times we've been in. (Not Walmart or KMart shoppers at home, but good prices on the islands).
