We are traveling to Costa Rica in May to visit in-laws. This will be my second trip, but this time we have our son who will be 1 in May. We will flying in to San Jose and then heading to San Carlos. Does any one know where can I find baby items pack n play, walker, baby food, diapers juice and toys close to the airport in San Jose (Alajuela)?

I think there's a mas x menos nearby (think Wal-mart). I don't know if they would have the pack n play and walker, but probably everything else.

There is a Hypermas (Hipermas?) in Heredia just a few km from the airport and from Alajuela. It is very close to a Walmart and has a large stock. Everything else you can get at Mas x Menos near the airport. Be aware that green veggies (baby food) are impossible to find! You might want to take a few green beans and peas with you. There is also a large mall in Alajuela where you MIGHT could pick up a pack n play.

As of 2005 Wal-mart now owns 33.3% of the Corporación Supermercados Unidos, which owns Hipermas, Pali, Mas X Menos, and Servimas.

True, you just won't see the word "WalMart"! But the Hipermas stores are, as far as I know, more "WalMarty" than Mas x Menos, Pali, etc.--mostly groceries there.

I notice the managers' nametags now say "WalMart." The staffers' tags still say "Mas x Menos."

Thank you all for your suggestions. I fell much better about being able to find the things I need for our son. Does any one know any thing about amanco (SP ?). A friend my husband's said we can get baby gear Pack N Play, Walker & ect. there. I was told that it is in the International Mall in Alajuela. My husband says it's something like a Babies R US.

The International Mall in Alajuela is extremely close to the airport. You'll have no problem with that. And I'll bet you'll find everything you will need. Nice mall. . .
