Waiting to Exhale in Savannah, GA
Hi there I have been giving the task of planning a trip for 7 ladies and we will be traveling to Savannah, GA on May 20-22 for a relaxing weekend. We are interested in some great African American restaurants and tours , as well as, a great spa in Savannah. We are all 40 and over and deserve this break. Can anyone help me with this task of finding this information for my ladies?

Maybe the spa at the Westin in the river?

Not strictly soul food, but you ladies might enjoy some good old fashioned southern cooking, having lunch at Mrs. Wilkes. We ate there and it was wonderful. No reservations, so arrive early. Seating is communal and 21 dishes were passed at our luncheon. It's a fun experience and the food is very good.

Will enthusiastically second starrs's recommendation to visit the First African Baptist Church. Excellent tour there.
Also will happily second Giovanna's suggestion of eating at Mrs. Wilkes -- wonderful meat and three type fare served up family style. It's only open M-F for lunch from 11 am to 2 pm and cash only. It's a good idea to get there ca. half an hour ahead near the head of the line, as the line can get long there.
Also consider visiting the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum, a worthy Black history museum with particular emphasis on local issues.
