WA - OR Road Trip
Please help fill in the blanks of my itinerary. We like road trips so we can see a lot, not much relaxing. When we retire and have more time we will take an extended trip to the area. We have been to Seattle, Port Townsend, Vancouver, Victoria, Portland, Gorge and Mt Hood on past trips so they are not on our agenda.
1 Arrive SEATAC 8:30 pm - Where should we stay near airport???
2 Port Angeles - Best Western
3 Should we stay at Kalaloch Lodge or Lake Quinault Lodge???
4 Should we stay on South WA coast (Long Beach or other?) or continue to Cannon Beach? Is it worth getting off 101 and driving extra miles and time to the coast? (Pacific Beach, Ocean Shores, Grayland, Oysterville)
5 Cannon Beach - Undecided on hotel - several options from this forum
6 Yachats - Overleaf
7&8 Cottage Grove (family) Village Green Resort
9 Longview or Kelso - Hotel?? Guesthouse Inn & Suites???
10 Mount Rainier - Paradise Inn
11 4:30pm Flight out of SEATAC

3--Lake Quinault would be my preference
4-5--I would stay 2 nights Cannon Beach--depending on when your trip is, you might run into minimum stay requirements anyway. I'd say Long Beach Peninsula is worth a detour esp if you're interested in Lewis & Clark history and if you go over there, you may as well drive up to Oysterville as well. Pacific Beach, Ocean Shores etc--no, not worth the detour IMO.
9--Why Longview/Kelso?

Two nights in Cannon Beach would be very nice, the Stephanie Inn and the Ocean Lodge are both beautiful hotels and directly on the ocean. The Stephanie Inn has a fantastic restaurant there. Spend some time at Ecola State Park and Indian Beach.
Oysterville is a very unique area of the WA coast, we did a day trip there last summer from our beach cottage in Seaside. There is a great restaurant in this area called The Ark in Nachotta. Stop at the Sea Farms in Oysterville for some oysters. This is entire area is tranquil and serene, there is also the little historic schoolhouse and church there.
Have fun on your trip! ***kim***

Except for Cape Disappointment State Park at the south end of Long Beach Peninsula, I don't know if you'd think it worthwhile getting off hwy 101 on the WA coast. Besides the spectacular scenery, including the best view of the mouth of the Columbia River, the Interpretive Center there is well worth a visit (maybe partially what NWWanderer is referring to for Lewis & Clark history).
Schooner's Cove Inn would be a more budget-friendly on-the-beach choice in Cannon Beach. Great location too, right in the middle of town.
Yachats - Overleaf; good choice!!

1. Any of the usual suspects for airport motels/hotels would work for you. They're all right there lined up near SeaTac.
3. I *much* prefer Lake Quinault over Kalaloch.
4. I'm a fan of Ocean Shores and Greylands myself, so yes I'd probably fit them in.
