Hi,

Planning a trip to the Oregon coast late September/early October. Could any of you share relatively up-to-date info on the following accommodations?
Gearhart Ocean Inn, Spindrift in Manzanita, Surfside Resort in Rockaway, Schooner's cove in Cannon Beach, and Ecola Creek Lodge.

I have searched this board and Trip Advisor and found some help, although not all is current.

This trip would be for my sister and me, both of us in early 60s. Looking for clean, comfortable and reasonable cost, although I realize that is subjective. Would like to keep it under $80.00 per night.

Would probably be on coast a couple of weeks so doesn't have to be oceanfront every night, bit most nights, I think.

Any help would be very appreciated.

What kind of up-to-date info are you looking for? I'm familiar with Gearhart Ocean Inn, Schooner's Cove, and Ecola Creek Lodge. All fit the "clean, comfortable" criteria, but I doubt Schooner's Cove will be within the stipulated budget. As you probably know, it's on the beach in Cannon Beach, maybe the most popular (and expesive) beach town on the coast.

Gearhart Ocean Inn is a cute little place in a quiet little town. One of my favorite coastal restaurants, Pacific Way Bakery & Cafe, is across the street. It's a bit of a hike to the beach from there, though.

You might also consider Inn at Arch Cape, about five miles south of Cannon Beach. It's a sister property of Gearhart Ocean Inn. Scarlett, another regular poster, stayed there last fall, so maybe she'll chime in.

Please please look up Sylvia Beach Hotel..they have great fun at dinner...you are seated at a table with other guests and play a game called :Two Truths and a Lie...we are not game players...but we were there so said what the heck..it was wonderful! (we are in our 60's also)...you get to meet the most interesting people...and breakfast is included..go cheap once or twice so you can get a chance to stay there...the rooms are all decorated in author theme's and I think it is one of the destinations noted in Places To See Before You Die (nor certain of the correct title)...

Schooner's Cove is our favorite place to stay on the north coast.

The rooms are well maintained, all with great ocean views, and it is located one block from shopping and restaurants.

However, as previously noted, you will need to increase your travel budget to stay there.

Ecola Creek Lodge is a quaint and pleasing looking place. I have never stayed there, but friends who stayed there told me they found it to be inconveniently located for beach activities.

If you like low-key, Manzanita may be for you.

Manzanita is a very small town with a nice beach, and I agree it is definitely low-key. I don't know about Spindrift, but we liked the Sunset Surf which is across a road from the beach and we had a great view from our balcony. this was my partner's favorite place on our trip. You might be able to get it for 80 a night. I did post a trip report here.

Yes, we stayed at the Inn@Arch Cape in Arch Cape which is located about 10 miles South of Cannon Beach on 101.
Every room has a tiny kitchen, bath and a nice big fireplace. The prices are much more than $80 a night though.
To be truthful, I don't know what will be that price in the fall along that part of the Coast. Manzanita shuts down a lot of the hotels, there were none open in town when we were there..and those that are open are charging over $100 a night..

Here is a "find" on the Oregon Coast. Google -- Surfrider in Depoe Bay (near Newport). We spent last weekend there -- $89 a night -- nice motel room with a million dollar view. I was really impressed - at that price I wasn't expecting much but we wanted a quick weekend getaway (we're new to the Portland area). A local told me about the place and -- believe me we'll be returning often. Be sure to ask for a 2nd (top) floor room (the view will be great and you won't have to worry about noice from above). Great beach right in front -- you'll hear the ocean all night.

Hi there, have you made a decision yet? I really like the location and the looks of the Ecola Creek Lodge. We have a beach cottage in Seaside so don't require lodging, but this place really looks quaint and well-kept. It is walking distance to downtown Cannon Beach which is nice. Hope you have a great trip to the coast! ***kim***

We were talking last night about hoping for a good couple of days of weather in the next month so we can drive over to the Coast for a stay before we leave Oregon. I want to stay at the Gearhart or Inn@Arch Cape again.
And I confess, that little restaurant in Manzanita, Bread & Ocean had the best soups and scones that I would like to have just one more time !
Do not forget cameras, the views in that area are just breathtaking!
