Volcano Inn- 2nd St. or Country Goose

We won't be spending much time in the room, so am interested in very moderate priced lodging near VNP. Will be in VNP 3 nights, 2 days. Have searched and looked at trip advisor. Any preferences/comments on these 2 lodgings. Thanks

We stayed at the Country Goose this past October. We stayed in the King Room at the main house.

There are lots of good reviews about this place on tripadvisor, but I put my review on there too, which was not favorable. The room seemed very musty and old. The bathroom seemed very old. I didn't eat anything Joan made for breakfast, because the kitchen and dishes were dirty. I think most of the good reviews are for her other locations, but I have seen good reviews for the King room, too, so maybe it is that I am just very picky.

Because of how much we disliked the room, we left very early in the mornings and didn't return until nighttime.

When we go back to visit the area again, we will stay at the Kileaua Lodge.

Not sure of your budget, but we stayed at the Kilauea Lodge and loved it; it's a charming property with a great restaurant on site.

We stayed at Art&Orchids B&B near Puna about 15-20mins from VNP. We loved it. Great breakfast of home grown fruit, coffee and their own goat cheese etc. The couple that own it are artists from CA. They are very helpful friendly people.

Stayed in Volcano Inn first week on June, our stay was for two nights and we loved it!. Owners are very pleasant and the accommodations were wonderful, not to mention the convenience of VNP so close by. We arrived earlier than check in, the wife was cleaning our room when we got there and they allowed us to drop off our luggage get our key and start exploring that side of the island. The beds were very comfortable, full kitchen with utensils, they also have flashlights for you to take to the park. Like you we wanted something nice at a good price close to the park. Not sure if you know (or if it’s important to you) they do not offer any type of breakfast, which was fine with us. Hope this helps. Have fun.

Hi Beatle:
Yes. Not sure how many people are in your party but, it was for girls and we stayed in the Volcano house. It's a two story house we were in the second floor. While we were there no one was on the first floor which was great, make sure you go to Thai restaurant really close to their, the food was great, service quick and very reasonable prices.

I stayed at the "My Island Bed & Breakfast" earlier this year. http://www.myislandinnhawaii.com/

It was nice, clean, not too expensive and close to VNP. The owners/hosts were were nice as well and helpful with information.

We stayed at one of the Country Goose rental houses (the Hale Hideaway) last fall and it was our favorite place to sleep the whole trip! Our own private rainforest getaway. If it's in your budget, I'd definitely consider it.

We also stayed at the Country Goose, and we liked it a lot. I had no complaints with anything there being old or dirty! We were in the downstairs room at the main house.

Thanks so much everyone for the info, I made reservations at the Volcano Inn. Now I have one last lodging to take care of, somewhere near the Kohala Coast- any recommendations appreciated, is it possible under $200/nt. Thanks...

Well, we stayed at the Fairmont Orchid on the Kohala Coast. We absolutely LOVED it, but it was about $269 per night (and that was a great rate for that hotel).

The Marriott has just completed renovations, and I think you can get close to $200 per night there.

Can I pick those great Fodorite brains once more-I think I've decided on the Puako or Kawaiihae area, appreciate any comments on those areas.
Also, I've seen reasonable rates on Hawaiioceanfront.com Alohadebbie properties. Has anyone used them? They have several cottages, and one condo in Puako. Thanks so much!

We stayed in Volcano in May, 2006, at Volcano B&B on Keonelehua Ave. Part of the Chalet Kilauea collection. The check in office was at the Chalet, a separate place. The B&B was about 1/2 mile away. Owner at check in was very polite. It was rainy & cool, so we needed the little heaters they provided during the night. We had the Elepaio & Malia Rooms (son/wife went with us). Clean place, we were not disappointed. Only drawback was a shared bathroom, but there was only one other couple and 2 single girls there, so it worked out. We are early risers and they were late sleepers. Enjoyed visiting in the evening in the main "family rm" & watching tv. Total cost was $176 for both rooms, one night. It was close to downtown Volcano & VNP. Although it was a non-hosted facility, they had someone come in and prepare continental breakfast of fruit, cereal & fresh, warm muffins. Ate upstairs in the sun room. Was plenty for us and very good. After check in, we had dinner at a local restaurant, can't remember the name, and have very good home-made style pizza! Yum-O
