We need help finding a good B&B or an inn near area between Rutland and Manchester. We will be in area visiting offspring and plan to stay with him 2-3 nights, but need somewhere else to stay during rest of visit...don't want to wear out our welcome. We don't need luxe (but that would be nice), but want something nice with a good breakfast, not just a carb buffet, and dinner service would be wonderful. We know about Equinox, but don't know much about other Imostly smaller) places. Anybody have a suggestion?

there is a place in Wallingford about halfway between Rutland & Manchester_ called the White Rocks Inn (or somethings similar). Never stayed there, but have heard the restaurant is good.

PS: The "Newhart" Inn is the Waybury Inn, located in East Middlebury.

There are a number of beautiful inns in Dorset, VT - six miles north of Manchester on route 30. Dorset Inn, Cornucopia, Inn at West View Farm, Dovetail Inn, Barrows House - they're all lovely and quaint. The Dorset Inn and the Inn at West View Farm both have very good restaurants, too. Dorset is a tiny but beautiful little village. Just make sure that you ask if your room faces or is close to route 30, if you don't sleep well at night - I know that the roadside rooms at the Dorset Inn can be a little noisy for folks who are sensitive to that sort of thing.

I've never stayed anywhere in Wallingford, but the Wallingfird Inn is supposed to be beautiful. I've been there for Sunday brunch (yum!) and I can say that their dining rooms are very pretty and Victorian.
