Vermont late March

Thinking about a trip to Burlington and Montpelier Vermont for late March/early April. Just looking to do some antiqueing, country drives, eating some good food, short hikes. Cold weather doesn't bother us, but is this time of year more late winter or early spring? Is it just gray and gloomy with all the foliage still completely bare, or are things starting to bud? In short, is this a nice time to visit or the worst? Thanks for any info.

You won't want to hike that time of year as it is what we call "mud season" and lots of the hiking trails are closed. Taking country drives can be messy (MUD) if you are talking about taking the back/dirt roads.
There will be no leaves on the trees. We don't see those until May. There will most likely still be snow on the ground.
HOWEVER, you can antique, shop, and eat your heart out if you want.

PS. If you do come then, you'll hit the maple sugaring season head on and be able to see how it is produced-really fun and interesting.

Depends each year exactly what the weather patterns are like, but that's probably going to be MUD SEASON.

They don't call it that for nothing! It's the "worst" imho.
