I too am hooked on villa rentals! We've rented in the Outer Banks (over the top mansions with 11 bedrooms great for family reunions), Maggie Valley, NC, the Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands, St. Lucia, Litchfield, SC, and Hawaii. All were wonderful, I'm happy to say (but you must do your homework that's for sure!).

The North Georgia Mountains have wonderful cabin rentals. Here are two websites:

Zion and Bryce each have lodges--Zion has separate triplex (or duples) cabin almost adjacent to the lodge.
Bahia Honda State Park in the Keys has some great-looking condos--heavy usage though.
Virginia's Kiptopeake State Park, at the foot of Delmarva, has a yurt. Wish someone would stay there and report back....I know, I should do it myself...
A number of PA state parks have cabins. And I suspect a lot of other states have similar options.

You'll find individual condo and home rentals at most Colorado and other ski resorts. I expect in the National Parks it would be cabins run by the park service - usually reasonably priced but requiring far in advance reservations for desirable dates.
