IMDonehere - sadly, the photo isn't accessible.
gailscout - I loved that exhibit! And am even more thrilled knowing that it was your son who was one of the artists involved in it.
As a lifelong NYer, I generally get my information about where to go from those who travel to the city. Here's one of my favorite posts from welltraveledbrit, who posted this last year before a long stay in NYC:

If you are here before Jan. 8, the 'Jerusalem' exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum is fabulous. And through February 20, so is the Max Beckmann exhibit.
Since January can be pretty cold, I'd be making sure the inside experiences top my list -- while I love the Staten Island Ferry, it may be less than optimal at this time of year.
Do include the Morgan Museum -- a small enough place not to be overwhelming, but really stellar. The Library is not to be missed!
The Core exhibit at the Museum of the City of NY is not to be missed!
The Morris-Jumel Mansion and Sylvan Terrace in Washington Heights
That's all I can think of for now... and I thank everyone else here for posting because it gives me new ideas!

<I can't imagine coming to NYC and taking time to go to a Mall. But that's me. (I've lived here all my life.)>
Yeah, I get that. But the Oculus at the Westfield Mall is stunningly beautiful. One can also traverse underground from the Westfield Mall to Brookfield Place (near West St) and ice stake on the new rink.
