Autumn in New York

Staying in Soho. Any suggestions on fun stuff, excellent dining $ - $$$, window shopping, museums, walking around and any others you'd care to share. Been to the Met many times and really need to branch out! Arriving tomorrow.

Thank you!

MoMA, Neue Gallery, and dozens of private galleries in SoHo and DUMBO.

Also the 9/11 Memorial/Museum and Ellis Island.

Also check out the NY Historical Society, Museum of the City of NY, Mudeo del Barrio - and dozens of others.

Tomorrow is the marathon. If you're here early it's fun to watch the great surge of runners come off the 59th St. Bridge onto First Avenue.

What airport are you coming into? You need to be really careful to avoid the marathon route unless you are arriving at night.

There are many buildings, less since the Recession and Sandy, where there are floors and floors and galleries. You start at the top and work your way down.

Just google art galleries SOHO NY and choice what may interest you.

Glad you did not wait until the last minute.

Some of favorite places to eat in the area Red Cat (a little more expensive) FoodShop, Santina, Coppelia.

Best Donuts in NY-Donut Plant branch in the Chelsea Hotel and Donut Pub on 14th. Not the best, just an great indie throwback.

I really enjoyed the walking tours especially the food ones. I did the lower east side food tour recently.

We are here now and had no issues with the marathon yesterday. Thanks everyone for the great suggestions...if you think of anything else we'll be here for a week.

"Some of favorite places to eat in the area Red Cat (a little more expensive) FoodShop, Santina, Coppelia."

I'm confused. "in the area"? What area? Chelsea? I thought the OP was asking about Soho. None of these are in Soho -- unless it's FoodShop which I am unfamiliar with. I thought maybe the recommendation was for CookShop, which is closer to the area of the other recommendations, none of which are in Soho.
